Job Description

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Master's Degree in Educational Leadership

Possesses or is eligible for a valid Florida Educator Certificate in Educational Leadership, Principal, Administration and Supervision

Successful completion of a Florida state approved principal preparation program

Three (3) years successful K-12 level teaching experience

Three (3) years successful administrative experience preferable

Possess a valid Florida Driver's License; if a holder of any other valid US state-issued Driver's License, agree to acquire a Florida Driver's License within thirty (30) days of employment, except in a case where accommodation is required

Ability to prepare and manage the school's budget and allocated resources

Ability to read, interpret and enforce the applicable policies, rules, laws and regulations

Demonstrates knowledge of Florida reform and accountability initiatives and effective schools concepts

REPORTS TO Area Superintendent in collaboration with Superintendent

SUPERVISES Assistant Principal, Professional staff as assigned, Support staff as assigned


POSITION GOAL

To provide administrative responsibility and instructional leadership to the management, planning, operation,

evaluation and improvement of the educational program of the school for students, staff, parents and community


PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES

1. *Provide facilitative leadership, demonstrating the values, beliefs, skills and personal characteristics that inspire people to

accomplish the school board's vision.

2. *Demonstrate a commitment to the goal of graduation assurance for all students.

3. *Ensure that teachers plan and provide effective instruction to accomplish the school's goals based on the tenet that teachers

believe all students can learn.

4. *Value and demonstrate an understanding of the diversity reflected in the school community.

5. *Initiate, monitor, assess and supervise the implementation of activities to support the goals and objectives of the school

improvement plan.

6. *Use appropriate means to provide a school environment, which is safe, secure, orderly and conducive to learning.

7. *Implement an effective staff development program for all members of the staff based on school-focused improvement needs.

8. *Promote positive school climate by encouraging the capabilities and emphasizing the worth of all individuals.

9. *Project, promote and maintain an enthusiasm for learning among students, teachers, family, and community members.

10. *Use a variety of data to make decisions regarding the school instructional program, such as surveys and interviews regarding

the climate for learning, attendance, parent participation, and educational research, as well as other measures of student

assessment.

11. *Interpret, implement and maintain compliance with school board policies, state school laws and administrative directives and

practices.

12. *Develop a program of public relations to further community understanding, involvement and support for the school's plan for

improvement and the school district's educational program.

13. *Administer budgeted allocations and resources and recommend annual budgetary needs.

14. *Perform medical intervention as assigned and in accordance with law and school board policy.

15. *Assign staff members to instructional teams in accordance with their professional qualifications, in response to student needs,

and consistent with the instructional program of the school.

16. *Coordinate articulation activities to ensure smooth transition to other instructional programs and levels.

17. *Ensure appropriate coordination of extracurricular activities and programs.

18. *Evaluate the performance of all certified and support personnel and regularly provide feedback, guidance, support and

assistance as needed.

19. *Direct activities involving student/parent contacts concerning registrations, transfers, suspensions, expulsions, student

progress and adjustment, student placement, guidance and counseling and other matters of a personal or confidential nature.

20. *Use knowledge of child growth and development in the practical application of the functions of school administration.

21. *Identify and apply effective strategies for dealing with political issues and other forces as they relate to the school's operation.

22. *Engage in a program of continuing professional development and participate as a member of local, state and national

professional groups.

23. *Orient the newly assigned staff members and ensure their familiarization with school policies and procedures, teaching

materials and school facilities and nurture their professional development.

24. *Create a strong sense of "team" through the use of effective human relations techniques.

25. *Use conflict resolution methods, various decision-making techniques and the process of consensus building in the

administration of the school.

26. *Participate in recognition programs and events.

27. *Provide on-site facilities management and recommend repairs, maintenance and renovations as needed.

28. *Provide leadership in the development or revision, implementation and monitoring of the school improvement plan.

29. *Provide leadership for and support the work of the school advisory council, including involvement of the council in the

development of the school budget.

30. *Encourage positive school/community relations and serve as a liaison between the school and community.

31. *Provide leadership in the implementation of the Common Core, Florida Writes, Florida Standards Assessment (FSA), and

other tests designed and adopted to measure student achievement.

32. *Communicate effectively both orally and in writing with parents, staff, students and community.

33. *Establish and manage accurate student accounting and attendance procedures at the school.

34. *Establish guidelines for desirable student conduct and follow suspension and expulsion policies and procedures.

35. *Implement school board policy, state statutes, and federal regulations as they pertain to the school.

36. *Supervise and evaluate all school staff annually, according to school board policy.

37. *Interview and select qualified personnel to be recommended to the Superintendent for appointment.

38. *Lead and manage development of personnel through training, in-service and other developmental activities that are linked to

student results and the school improvement plan.

39. *Establish and maintain individual professional development plans for each instructional employee.

40. *Provide leadership in the effective use of technology in the classroom and in school administration.

41. *Participate in appropriate district level committees and assignments.

42. *Serve as a coach/mentor to assistant principals, teachers and others who are preparing for School Principal certification.

43. Perform other related duties as assigned by the Area Superintendent or the Superintendent
