Salary Range: $83,000 - $123,000 depending on experience

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, optimize, and validate laser welding processes for new and existing products.
  • Specify, procure, install, and maintain laser welding equipment and tooling.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to laser weld quality, equipment performance, and process stability.
  • Establish and monitor process control parameters to ensure consistent weld quality and product reliability.
  • Collaborate with R&D and design teams to implement Design for Manufacturability (DFM) principles for laser welded components.
  • Conduct metallurgical analysis and mechanical testing of laser welded joints to verify integrity and performance.
  • Create and maintain detailed process documentation, work instructions, and standard operating procedures (SOPs).

Recommended Qualifications

  • Strong understanding of laser welding principles, metallurgy, and material science for various alloys.
  • Proven experience in developing, optimizing, and validating robust laser welding processes in a manufacturing environment.
  • Proficiency in operating, programming, and troubleshooting industrial laser welding systems (e.g., fiber, Nd:YAG) and associated equipment.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze weld defects, implement root cause corrective actions, and drive continuous process improvement.
  • Familiarity with manufacturing quality systems (e.g., ISO, IATF) and statistical process control (SPC) methodologies.

Bonus Qualifications

  • Experience with robotic programming (e.g., FANUC, KUKA) for automated laser welding systems.
  • Advanced knowledge of metallurgy and material science specific to laser weldability of various alloys.
  • Proficiency in process simulation or modeling software (e.g., FEA) for weld optimization and defect prediction.
  • Experience with advanced non-destructive testing (NDT) methods such as X-ray or CT scanning for weld quality assessment.
