This is a traveling position that offers weekly pay and per diem!
We are seeking an experienced R&D Tooling Engineer to support a high-priority backlog of fixtures and an active fixture rebuild plan within a high-mix, precision metal manufacturing environment.
Job Title: R&D Tooling Engineer
Guarantee: 50 hours minimum (Availability for more OT)
Duration: 6 Month Minimum (up to a year+ )
Shift: Monday-Friday 7am-3pm (Minimum)
This role is ideal for a hands-on manufacturing or tooling engineer who enjoys solving real production challenges, improving processes, and supporting long-term manufacturing stability.
What You’ll Be Working On
- Supporting fixture design, rebuilds, and tooling improvements tied directly to production needs
- Researching, justifying, and implementing engineering and tooling projects
- Managing and maintaining master data (BOMs, routings, materials, costing)
- Conducting time studies, efficiency analysis, and workflow optimization
- Reviewing and updating production standards and layouts
- Supporting capital equipment and automation initiatives
- Partnering closely with manufacturing, R&D, and production teams to reduce backlog and improve throughput
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Project research, justification, and implementation
- Master data maintenance (materials, bill of materials, pricing & routings)
- Master data projects (mass fixes, queries, reporting)
- New product costing and/or pricing analysis
- Conduct time and efficiency studies
- Analyze and recommend layout and work flow
- Review and recommend updates to production standards
- Research, recommend, and manage capital equipment projects
- Research, recommend, and manage automation projects
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum 3 to 5 years’ experience in an advanced high mix manufacturing environment and Manufacturing, Industrial, or Mechanical Engineering Degree
- Experience with a Manufacturing Execution System (MES) or Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system in a metal manufacturing environment is preferred. Ideally, this includes experience with Master Data setup and maintenance (materials, routings, costing).
- Familiarity with a production environment and advanced manufacturing processes
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Good communication skills
- Excellent documentation skills
- Mastery of MS Office suite, specifically Excel
- Project management experience, specifically capital research/installation projects
- Master Data management experience preferred
- Solid Works experience
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE
- Visual Basics programming
- 3-5 Years of experience as a manufacturing engineer
- CMM programming
- SAP experience (not required)
