This role involves ensuring patients are rendered unconscious or insensible to pain and emotional stress during surgical and various medical procedures. Responsibilities include preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative evaluations and treatments, supporting vital life functions under the pressures of anesthesia and surgery, providing medical management and consultations in pain management and critical care, and performing direct resuscitation for patients experiencing cardiac or respiratory emergencies. Additionally, the role includes supervising patients in post-anesthesia care units and those in critical condition in specialized care units.

Key responsibilities encompass:

  • Evaluating, consulting, and preparing patients for anesthesia, including conducting thorough history and physical examinations.

  • Providing medical management for patients during the perioperative phase, addressing both physical and emotional stress.

  • Overseeing post-anesthetic recovery, including managing procedural pain.

  • Administering and supervising general anesthesia, regional anesthesia, monitored anesthesia, as well as pre and postoperative care, and managing acute and chronic pain.

  • Placing, managing, and utilizing invasive monitoring devices and lines, such as arterial lines, central venous catheters, pulmonary artery catheters, epidurals, spinal catheters, drains, and infusions.

  • Administering anesthesia for the implantation, removal, replacement, and repair of pacemakers, cardioversion devices, deep brain stimulators, and other neuro and muscular stimulators.

  • Training medical students, nurse anesthetist students, and residents across various experience levels.

Special consideration will be given to applicants who hold diplomate status from subspecialty boards in Anesthesiology, including:

  • Critical Care Anesthesiology: Serving as consultants in the intensive care unit or as primary attending based on training, experience, board certification, and credentialing.

  • Cardiothoracic Anesthesiology: Managing cases that require or may require cardiopulmonary bypass, including anesthesia for coronary artery surgery, valve surgery, 'off-pump CABG', and major non-cardiac vascular surgeries requiring cardiopulmonary bypass.

  • Handling minimally invasive cardiology cases for transcutaneous aortic valve replacements, mitral valve procedures, Watchman procedures, and the implantation and removal of pacemakers and implanted defibrillators.

Additional Requirement:

  • Board Certified or Board Eligible in Anesthesiology.

Preferred Experience:

  • Fellowship training is preferred, though other relevant experience may be considered at the discretion of the Chief of Anesthesia Service.

  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification is mandatory.
