Role Description This is a full-time, on-site Accountant role based in Carmi, IL. The Accountant will prepare and review individual and business tax returns, assist with tax planning, and ensure compliance with relevant regulations. Daily responsibilities include maintaining accurate general ledgers, reconciling accounts, preparing financial statements, and supporting monthly, quarterly, and annual closing processes. The role will also involve performing bookkeeping tasks for business clients and assisting with audit engagements for governmental and not-for-profit entities, including testing, documentation, and report preparation. The Accountant will collaborate with team members to analyze financial data, respond to client inquiries, and provide clear, timely communication that supports client decision-making.
Qualifications
- Strong technical accounting skills, including general ledger management, account reconciliations, and financial statement preparation.
- Knowledge of tax preparation and compliance for individuals and businesses, with the ability to interpret and apply tax laws and regulations.
- Experience or coursework in audit procedures, working papers, and testing for governmental and/or not-for-profit entities is beneficial.
- Proficiency with accounting software, spreadsheets, and other office productivity tools; familiarity with modern tax preparation and audit software is an advantage.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills, with a high level of attention to detail and accuracy.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain financial information clearly to clients and colleagues.
- Ability to manage multiple deadlines, work effectively in a team setting, and maintain confidentiality of sensitive financial information.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required; eligibility or intent to pursue CPA certification is preferred.
- Previous public accounting or tax experience is a plus, but candidates with strong academic backgrounds and relevant internships are encouraged to apply.
