The Career Services Advisor supports students and graduates in securing employment by providing job search assistance, career coaching, and employer outreach. This role maintains detailed and confidential records, delivers workshops and presentations, and ensures student issues are resolved in alignment with company policies, accreditation standards, and regulatory requirements. The Advisor plays a key role in building employer partnerships and achieving placement goals.
Key Responsibilities
Employer Outreach & Lead Generation (Sales-Focused Career Services)
- Maintain an active lead generation system to ensure a steady pipeline of job opportunities for students and graduates.
- Build and strengthen relationships with local employers, providing program information and identifying hiring needs.
- Conduct daily outreach to new companies to expand employer partnerships.
- Coordinate employer site visits, attend job fairs, and prepare marketing materials to generate job leads.
- Identify entry-level job openings through phone outreach, job boards, networking, and community engagement.
- Accurately enter all placement-related data into the company’s electronic recordkeeping system.
Graduate Placement & Career Coaching
- Achieve or exceed placement targets established by the Career Services Director.
- Review, edit, and improve student and graduate resumes, cover letters, and job search documents.
- Provide coaching on interviewing, workplace etiquette, professional dress, and job readiness.
- Maintain active relationships with graduates until employment is secured in their field or a related field.
- Conduct employability workshops and one-on-one coaching sessions.
- Prepare graduates for interviews and follow up to track progress and next steps.
- Maintain weekly contact with graduates to monitor job search activity and provide support.
- Educate students on job duties, compensation, benefits, schedules, working conditions, company policies, and promotional opportunities.
- Inform students about relocation considerations and expenses when applicable.
- Match graduates with job requirements and employer needs.
- Review applicant progress, follow up after interviews, and advise on next steps.
- Maintain conversion logs and secure documentation in the approved database.
- Verify continuous employment in accordance with school, accreditation, and company guidelines.
Administrative & Campus Support
- Maintain a weekly activity log, including employer outreach and student interactions, fully documented in CampusVue.
- Support campus events such as graduation ceremonies, new student orientation, and advisory board meetings.
- Demonstrate strong organization, professionalism, and attention to detail.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- 1–3 years of relevant experience in career services, recruiting, sales, customer service, or workforce development.
- Equivalent combinations of education and experience considered.
- Strong communication, relationship-building, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, student-centered environment.
Classification
Non-exempt
Work Schedule
40 hours per week; evening and weekend availability may be required.
