Illumination Foundation (IF) is a growing non-profit organization dedicated towards disrupting the cycle of homelessness by providing targeted, interdisciplinary services in our recuperative care centers, emergency shelters, housing services and children's and family programs. IF currently has 13+ facilities with 22+ micro-communities scattered across Orange County, Los Angeles County and the Inland Empire.
Job Description:
The Volunteer & Intern Coordinator is responsible for the day-to-day coordination of volunteer
activities, internship opportunities, and nursing student placements across the organization’s programs.
Reporting to the Manager of Volunteer Relations, this role will assist with recruitment, onboarding,
scheduling, and support while fostering strong relationships with community partners and academic
institutions.
The pay range for this role is $18 - $22 per hour.
Responsibilities:
Volunteer & Intern Coordination:
- Support the Volunteer Manager with volunteer, intern, and nursing student recruitment efforts
- Coordinate application, screening, and onboarding processes for volunteers and student placements
- Organize and conduct volunteer and intern orientations and trainings in partnership with program staff
- Coordinate scheduling and placement of volunteers, interns, and nursing students according to program needs
- Commute to Illumination volunteer/intern locations across Southern California to ensure volunteers and interns experience
- Track and maintain accurate records of volunteer, intern, and student hours and assignments
Program & Student Placement Support:
- Work with program teams to assess volunteer and intern needs and schedules
- Serve as a liaison for nursing student placements in coordination with local colleges, universities, and clinical instructors
- Provide consistent communication and support to volunteers, interns, and students throughout their service
- Assist in planning volunteer appreciation and recognition activities
Community & School Partnerships:
- Help maintain partnerships with schools, universities, and community organizations for intern and student placement opportunities
- Serve as a contact for academic institutions regarding placement schedules, agreements, and requirements
Administrative & Reporting Duties:
- Maintain volunteer and intern management databases or tracking systems (e.g., Bloomerang, Volunteer Match, or similar)
- Compile reports on volunteer and intern participation for internal use and funding reports
- Assist with volunteer recruitment marketing, outreach materials, and events
Qualifications:
Required
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Nonprofit Management, Social Work, Public
- Health, Human Resources, or related field
- 1-2 years of experience coordinating volunteers, internships, or community engagement activities
- Valid California driver’s license, reliable transportation, and the ability to travel between service locations as needed
- Excellent communication, organizational, and relationship-building skills
- Strong multitasking, time management, and problem-solving abilities
- Ability to work collaboratively with internal departments and external partners
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and volunteer management software or tracking systems
Preferred
- Experience coordinating internships and/or nursing student placements
- Familiarity with nonprofit or healthcare program environments
- Volunteer management software/database experience
- Bilingual skills a plus
