Job DescriptionMedical Temporaries, Inc. is currently seeking an experienced LPN
- Minimum of 1 year of experience required.
This is a PART-TIME/TEMP TO HIRE position requiring availability 2-3 days a week between the hours of 7:30 AM- 4 PM or when the last patients leave. Located in Hampton, VA.
Responsibilities:A Day in the Life of an LPN / Licensed Practical Nurse:
- Arrives at 7:30 am. Prepares and cleans holding rooms as necessary.
- Nurse assigned to procedure room 2 is responsible for ensuring the AED, refrigerator and pre/post oxygen cylinders have been checked and logs completed daily and glucometers once a week on Monday. If there is no procedure room assignment these responsibilities default nurse assigned to procedure room 1
- Prepares patient for procedure, including pre-op care, assisting anesthesia team with forms- pre-op assessment and medical history, notifying anesthesia team of any medical issues. (All patients should be prepped and ready first thing in the morning for evaluation by the CRNA’s.) Obtains vital signs and starts IV. Ensures consent for anesthesia and procedure are obtained.
- Confirms ride home prior to procedure and whether procedure findings can be discussed with this person. Addresses any patient concerns. Reviews discharge instruction.
- Receives patient back after procedure, assesses patient/obtains vital signs and receives detailed report from anesthesia. (If nurse not available for vital signs-CRNA will complete). Assists anesthesia team with post-op care. Monitors patient post procedure and takes vital signs every 5 minutes until recovery is complete. Removes IV after patient has recovered. Reviews discharge instructions provided by physician with family member/ride and obtains signature and answers any question. Reviews patient education recommended by physician.
- Responsible for getting the patient’s ride/family member if appropriately documented to the pre/post room as soon as acceptable after the procedure to avoid delays. If unavailable this task should be relayed to front desk, other nurse or available staff
- Responsible for close observation of patients at all times-particularly post procedure. If additional observation is required at any time (due to doctor/CRNA recommendation), any available nurse or CRNA should provide the level of observation needed
- Cleans recovery bay and stretcher after each patient.
- Calls patients from previous day’s procedures to ensure no post-op problems or questions. Documents phone call. Notifies physician of any concerns.
- Removes and replaces dirty linen bags as needed.
- Takes initiative in ensuring steady work flow, consulting with physicians and staff to achieve acceptable level of productivity. If the assigned doctor for the day takes a long break and all assigned patients are provided for, works with other nurse and patients until the doctor returns
- Ensures pre/post rooms and nurses station is stocked. Advises nurse manager of any low inventory.
- Locks up entry/waiting room doors at the end of the day. Ensures TV and bathroom light/waiting room lights are off and heat/ac is set to appropriate closing temperature. If last person leaving ensures all lights are off and all doors locked.
- Informs their assigned doctor if leaving the HRG facility for any reason
- Performs other duties as assigned by nurse manager or physicians
- Follow all current HRG policies for COVID-19 risk/infection control, self-monitoring & temperature checks, proper PPE protocols (masking/scrubs), physical distancing, reporting of exposure or positive COVID-19 testing, additional cleaning of all high-touch surfaces with approved antiseptic cleaner per schedule and all procedures and policies in place to prevent the spread of COVID-19
- All nurses are expected to work together as a team to ensure all patients are prepped and ready for their procedures, regardless of their assignment for the day. Each doctor should have at least 2 patients ready to go before a 3rd patient is prepped. If you’re going to be late you need to contact the other nurse (and doctor if more than 15 minutes late.) ALL nurse(s) should begin prepping all patients as needed with the assistance of ALL staff.
Requirements for the LPN/ Licensed Practical Nurse-GI:
- Required: legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.
- Required: Valid Virginia LPN License or valid multi-state LPN licensure
- Required: Graduation from an accredited school of nursing
- Required: BLS
- Preferred: ACLS
- Required: Experience in conscious sedation required
- Required: IV skills are required
- Preferred: pre/post endo nurse experience a plus!
- Required: Ability to pass Background Check and Drug Screen
- Required: Must be reliable and a quick learner and can multi-task with accuracy in a very busy environment
- Required: Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Required: Knowledge of EMR and medical terminology.
- Required: Compassion for patient needs and a high degree of professionalism.
