Overview
Responsible for delivering high-quality professional care to patients and their families under the guidance of the Surgery Leader and/or Surgeon in surgical suites and other clinical settings within the designated scope of practice.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist the surgeon within the defined competency and practice standards, employing infection control techniques and maintaining a sterile environment.
- Rotate through the Sterile Processing Department (SPD) to clean and sterilize instruments for the operating room, emergency room, and clinics.
- Update preference cards to ensure all team members can execute procedures as per the surgeon's specifications.
- Adhere to regulatory standards, policies, and procedures.
- Confirm patient identity and verify the operative procedure, site, surgeon, and consent.
- Implement and monitor aseptic techniques throughout the surgical process.
- Conduct sponge, needle, and instrument counts in accordance with established policies.
- Engage in the assessment of new supplies, equipment, and instruments.
- Prepare the operating room by arranging instruments and supplies as directed.
Essential Qualifications
The candidate must be able to work the specified hours. Successful performance of essential job functions requires adequate visual acuity, effective communication skills, and the ability to hear and distinguish sounds. These qualifications represent the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary for the role. Required Education, Licensure/Certification, or Experience:
- Graduation from an accredited Surgical Technologist Program with a Technical Certificate.
- Certification as a Surgical Technologist (CST) from the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) upon hire, or
- Certification as a Tech in Surgery (TS-C) from the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT) upon hire.
Preferred Education, Licensure/Certification, or Experience:
- 1-3 years of surgical experience.
