Job DescriptionExperienced Concrete Finishers Needed Immediately on Tyndall AFB. $26 to $28 per hour!!!A concrete curb and gutter finisher shapes, smooths, and finishes freshly poured concrete for curbs, gutters, and related structures. They work with hand and power tools to achieve desired textures, apply curing compounds, and ensure proper alignment and finish according to project specifications.
Job Description - Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
• Spread, level, and smooth concrete, using rake, shovel, hand or power trowel, hand or power screed, and float.
• Monitor how the wind, heat, or cold affect the various stages of the concrete throughout the entire process.
• Direct the casting of the concrete and supervise laborers who use shovels or special tools to spread it.
• Produce various final finishes on concrete surfaces based of job specific requirements, using rough/fine brooms or
special groove rakes.
• Mold expansion joints and edges, using edging tools, jointers, and straightedge.
• Clean chipped area, using wire brush, feel and observe surface to determine if it is rough or uneven. Signal truck
driver to position truck to facilitate pouring concrete and move chute to direct concrete on forms.
• Apply sealing compounds to cure surfaces on concrete.
• Operate power vibrator.
• Chip, scrape, and grind high spots, ridges, and rough projections to finish concrete, using pneumatic chisels, power
grinders, or hand tools.
• Must perform general laborer duties as needed.
Technical knowledge and practical expertise
- Understanding construction specifications: Ability to interpret blueprints and plans to determine the correct location, width, and shape of the curb and gutter being installed.
- Formwork and concrete placement: Expertise in setting up and securing formwork and utilizing proper techniques for pouring, leveling, finishing, and curing concrete for curbs and gutters
- Tool proficiency: Mastery of hand tools like trowels, edgers, groovers, and floats for shaping and smoothing the concrete, as well as operating power equipment like curb machines and grinders.
- Joint placement and sealing: Correctly cutting expansion joints in the curb and gutter at specified intervals and sealing them to prevent damage caused by temperature fluctuations.
- Curing and protection: Applying curing, hardening, and sealing compounds to the concrete to ensure optimal strength and durability.
