A specialized role is available for a Registered Nurse skilled in cardiac step-down care within a dynamic hospital setting. This contract position is based in the Portsmouth area, providing care in a 20-bed Cardiac Medical Unit focused on telemetry, stroke overflow, and cardiac management.

Responsibilities include providing nursing care to post-interventional cardiac patients (excluding those post Cath lab unless radial artery was used), managing patients with chest pain, congestive heart failure, COPD, chest tubes, hi-flow and BiPAP ventilation, thoracentesis, peritoneal dialysis, tracheostomies, pacemakers, and cardiac catheterizations, while ensuring adherence to stroke and trauma protocols.

Key qualifications and desired experience:

• Valid RN licensure with proficiency in telemetry monitoring and cardiac care.
• Advanced nursing skills, including experience with thoracentesis, tracheostomy care, peritoneal dialysis, and management of pacemakers and cardiac cath patients.
• Certification in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Basic Life Support (BLS) required.
• Familiarity with medication administration via IV pumps and Kangaroo pumps.
• Strong ability to work within a multidisciplinary team, including collaboration with patient care assistants and unit clerks.
• Professional attire and adherence to unit policies essential.

Schedule and Environment:

• 3 consecutive 12-hour shifts per week with every other weekend scheduling.
• Patient-to-nurse ratio approximately 5:1 in a supportive team environment.
• Use of Meditech Expanse electronic health records system for documentation.
• The hospital is a recognized STEMI center, stroke center, and Level II trauma center, equipped with advanced technology and committed to patient-centered care.
