Job Description
This role supports production operations by performing low to moderate machining tasks on mills, drill presses, lathes, broaches, and related machine tools under direct supervision. The Machine Operator sets up basic tooling, runs established programs, and completes secondary operations while maintaining close tolerances and following detailed machining instructions and safety procedures.
Responsibilities
- Read and interpret machining instructions from blueprints, part drawings, and machine drawings to understand specifications and required operations.
- Set up basic tooling and prepare machines for production runs according to established programs and instructions.
- Operate a broad range of production work on mills, drill presses, lathes, broaches, and similar machine tools involving close tolerances with low to moderate difficulty.
- Run CNC and manual mills and lathes using existing programs and setups to produce parts to specification.
- Perform secondary operations such as stamping part numbers, deburring, and other finishing tasks as part of the machining process.
- Measure and inspect machined parts using calipers, micrometers, and other measuring tools to verify size, shape, and tolerance against prints or instructions.
- Verify conformance of finished workpieces to first article inspection results with limited supervision, and adjust operations when needed.
- Perform routine operator maintenance on machines, such as cleaning, basic lubrication, and simple adjustments, to keep equipment in good working order.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area and follow housekeeping standards in the general area.
- Follow all safety procedures and perform all operations with the highest regard for personal safety and the safety of others.
- Assist in other areas of the production floor and perform additional tasks as needed to support overall operations.
Essential Skills
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, part drawings, and machine drawings for machining operations.
- Hands-on experience operating mills and lathes in a production environment.
- Ability to set up basic tooling on mills and related machines.
- Experience running CNC programs on mills and lathes at a low to moderate level of complexity.
- Skill in using calipers, micrometers, and other measuring tools to check part dimensions and tolerances.
- Capability to perform routine operator maintenance on machine tools.
- Commitment to following safety procedures and using required personal protective equipment.
- Ability to work under direct supervision while maintaining quality and productivity standards.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience performing deburring, stamping part numbers, and other secondary machining operations.
- Familiarity with operating drill presses, broaches, and other basic machine tools.
- Comfort working with close tolerances and verifying parts against first article inspection results.
- Willingness to assist in other areas of production and take on additional tasks as needed.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain a clean and organized work area.

Work Environment
The role is based in a production facility that uses mills, lathes, drill presses, broaches, and other machining equipment. The environment includes regular exposure to fumes, airborne particles, and potentially toxic or caustic chemicals, with robust ventilation systems, very high ceilings, and appropriate venting in place. Personal protective equipment, including hearing protection, is required and provided to employees. The setting is typical of a machining and manufacturing floor, where safety procedures and proper use of PPE are an integral part of daily work.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Glenwood, MN.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $28.00 - $32.00/hr.
