Seeking two experienced educators to support students as Teachers for the Visually Impaired in Suffolk, VA for the 2025-2026 school year (August 4 to June 5). This full-time, itinerant contract position offers flexibility in scheduling to accommodate varied school start times across elementary, middle, and high schools.
Responsibilities:
- Provide specialized instruction and support to visually impaired students (PK-12) across 11 schools, including 5 elementary, 5 middle, and 7 high schools
- Manage a caseload of 1-3 students per school, adapting services to meet individual needs
- Collaborate with other staff members when students primary disabilities extend beyond visual impairments, including supporting students with Multiple Disabilities
- Develop individualized education plans (IEPs) and adapt curriculum to facilitate academic success and independence
- Engage in ongoing communication with parents, educators, and administrators to monitor student progress and adjust strategies as needed
- Maintain thorough documentation and comply with district policies for special education services
Qualifications:
- Certification and experience as a Teacher for the Visually Impaired (TVI)
- Expertise in delivering instruction tailored to students with visual impairments and related disabilities
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively across multiple school sites
- Strong collaboration and communication skills with educators, families, and support staff
- Commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment
