Position Overview:
We are seeking dedicated and motivated Registered Nurses to provide coverage for vacant positions and scheduled absences (including regular days off, sick days, and vacation days) for DOCCS nursing staff. This role involves shift work between 6:30 AM and 10:00 PM and requires availability to work weekends and holidays.
Candidates must be self-starters, able to work semi-independently with physician support available on-call, and committed to delivering quality care to an incarcerated male population.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assess inmate and staff medical complaints.
- Review and process physician orders and prescriptions; enter lab work and create requisitions.
- Administer medications as prescribed.
- Perform end-of-shift narcotics, sharps, and tool counts.
- Respond to emergency sick calls and medical emergencies; utilize AED as needed.
- Provide vaccinations, wound care, diabetic care, and inmate health education.
- Maintain accurate documentation and comply with all security directives.
- Demonstrate proficiency with computers, Microsoft Office programs, and learn a DOS-based system.
Qualifications:
- Education & Experience:
- Current RN license.
- Minimum of one year of acute care experience (Medical/Surgical, ER, ICU).
- Certifications:
- Annual TB test.
- Current CPR certification.
- Skills & Attributes:
- Dependable and detail-oriented.
- Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
- Preferred:
- Previous experience working in NYS DOCCS facilities.
