Job Title: Mental Therapy Aide / Mental Health Technician
Location: Syracuse, NY (13210)
Duration: 13 Weeks

Schedule & Shift Details

  • Shift Structure:
    • 2 x 12-hour shifts (07:00 AM – 07:30 PM)
    • 2 x 8-hour shifts (07:00 AM – 03:00 PM)
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend

Position Overview

"Navitas Healthcare, LLC" is seeking a compassionate and dependable Mental Therapy Aide / Mental Health Technician (MHT) to support patients in a behavioral health setting. This role is responsible for assisting with both direct and indirect patient care while promoting a safe, structured, and therapeutic environment. The ideal candidate will work collaboratively with clinical staff to support high-quality patient care and positive treatment outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide direct patient care under the supervision of nursing staff
  • Measure and accurately record vital signs and patient observations
  • Assist with patient admissions, documentation, and physical assessments
  • Monitor and document patient intake and output
  • Collect specimens as required
  • Safely transport patients within the facility
  • Orient patients to unit routines, policies, and expectations
  • Assist patients with activities of daily living, including hygiene support
  • Build and maintain therapeutic relationships with patients
  • Support patient participation in therapeutic and recreational activities
  • Respond appropriately to crisis situations and escalate concerns when necessary
  • Maintain a safe and secure environment, including conducting routine safety checks
  • Communicate patient status updates effectively to the care team

Required Qualifications

  • Recent experience working with psychiatric or behavioral health patients preferred (within the last 2 years)
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Basic understanding of medical terminology
  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced clinical environment
  • Must meet all pre-employment health screening requirements
