Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced, detail-oriented Construction Carpenter to join our residential building team. In this role, you will be involved in multiple phases of the home-building process, spanning from initial structural framing to high-end finish trim work. You must be highly proficient with hand and power tools, capable of reading architectural prints, and dedicated to delivering straight, square, and structurally sound craftsmanship for our new construction, addition, and remodel projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Rough Framing: Layout and construct wooden structures including floor joist systems, subflooring, exterior and interior load-bearing walls, stairs, and roof rafters or trusses.
- Exterior Trim & Envelope: Install exterior sheathing, house wrap, windows, exterior doors, fascia, soffits, and various types of siding (wood, fiber cement, vinyl).
- Interior Finish Carpentry: Cut and install finish trim work including baseboards, crown molding, door casings, window sills, interior doors, and built-in cabinetry.
- Blueprint Interpretation: Read and accurately interpret blueprints, architectural sketches, and structural framing layouts to determine material lists, dimensions, and installation procedures.
- Material Selection & Layout: Measure, mark, and cut wood, engineered lumber, and composite materials with minimal waste, ensuring all elements are level, square, and plumb.
- Hardware & Fastener Installation: Properly use structural hardware, hangers, tie-downs, and fasteners to meet local residential building codes and wind/seismic load requirements.
- Site Safety: Maintain a clean, organized work environment and safely operate heavy equipment (such as miter saws, table saws, framing nailers, and scaffolding) in compliance with OSHA standards.
Qualifications & Skills
- Experience: 3–5 years of professional carpentry experience, specifically in residential framing and/or finish woodworking.
- Technical Proficiency: Strong mastery of mathematical calculations related to carpentry (calculating pitch, stair rises/runs, rafter cuts, and material takeoffs).
- Tools: Must possess a complete set of personal hand tools and basic framing gear (e.g., tool belt, framing hammer, speed square, tape measure, chalk line, level).
- Physical Requirements: Ability to lift up to 80 lbs, climb scaffolding, work comfortably at heights, and perform continuous physical labor in varied outdoor weather conditions.
- Transportation: Valid driver’s license and dependable transportation to travel between local job sites.
