We are a General Contractor seeking an experienced Heavy Construction Equipment Operator for immediate hire. We offer competitive benefits and compensation. We are a well established, private non-union construction company. We are looking for a responsible, motivated operator with a good work history that demonstrates stability and consistency. MUST know how to read plans and set stakes. We are based out of Ventura County but may work in nearby Counties. We are looking for a candidate that wants to be a part of a great Team. TYPICAL DUTIES:

  • Expert at operating heavy construction equipment such as: backhoe, excavators, dozers, rollers, skid steer, loaders and trenchers.
  • Will do fine grading.
  • Secure work site, equipment and materials at the end of each shift to ensure public safety and safety of equipment and materials.
  • Inspects heavy equipment: includes structures and materials; identifies causes of errors and other problems or defects.
  • Monitors information: includes materials, events, or environment; detects or assesses problems associated with heavy equipment.
  • Identifies information: includes categorizing, estimating, and recognizing differences or similarities in heavy equipment; detects changes in circumstances or events.
  • Develop extensive working relationships with customers, both external and internal, in order to maximize opportunities for the Company and to ensure customer needs are addressed.
  • Keep equipment in acceptable condition of cleanliness using approved cleaning materials and supplies.
  • Maintain personal appearance in neat and clean manner.
  • Must be able to take orders, instructions, and guidance from supervisors and management.
  • Cooperate and promote a team concept with all other company employees, as well as all customers.
  • Adhere to all Company and O.S.H.A. rules and regulations at all times.
  • Perform all job duties in accordance with our safety policies and procedures.
  • Inspects assigned equipment prior to operation on a daily basis and reports any issues to management.
  • Attends all staff meetings, trainings, and educational classes as required.
  • Ensures that required documentation is complete and is in compliance with regulations and standards.
  • Maintains logs or time recordings as required by state, federal, and company policies and regulations.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Ability to follow written and/or oral instructions in the business language (English)
  • Must pass a pre-placement physical and drug test (marijuana is not permitted)
  • Must be able to read civil plans
  • Must know how to set grade stakes
  • Bilingual a plus
  • Perform the four basic arithmetic operations
  • Ability to read, interpret and apply laws, rules, regulations policies and/or procedures
  • Must be able to be on equipment for approximately 95% of a work shift.
  • Must be able to get on and off equipment throughout the work shift.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Physical dexterity, stamina, and excellent hand-eye coordination with ability to: grasp, assemble, and lift objects, stand, sit, and walk for extended periods over uneven surfaces, squat, bend, climb ladders onto equipment or other objects, and potentially lie down.
  • Lifting, pushing, pulling of heavy items weighing up to 25 lbs. or more.


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE INCLUDE:

  • 3 years minimum experience operating construction equipment (not including forklift)
  • Or, at least 6,000 hours of experience operating construction equipment (not including forklift)

Pay Range:

$28.00 an hour to $42.00 an hour, depending on experience. Though some projects provide prevailing wage pay, the project types do fluctuate and the rate of pay could be impacted based on project type though a base hourly rate will be determined if job offer extended.

At Staples Construction, pay ranges are assigned to a job based on the location specific market median of similar jobs according to third party salary benchmark surveys. Individual pay within that range can vary for several reasons including skills/capabilities, experience, and available budget.
