Job Title: Adult Services Manager

Work Environment: Primarily works in a public-facing library environment with office duties and the possibility of occasional travel.
Summary: Manages all aspects of library services to adult patrons. Provides reference and reader's advisory service. Plans and implements adult programming. Assists the Library Services Manager in managing Library Assistant-Circulation staff.
Essential Functions
- Plan, implement, and evaluate educational, recreational, enriching adult programs
- Staff the public facing reference desk and provide reference and reader's advisory service in-person, by phone, and online
- Provide referrals to appropriate internal and external sources
- Assist patrons in the use of library resources, services, and materials
- Conduct outreach and partner with community organizations
- Learn Circulation functions to assist with training and managing the Library Assistant-Circulation staff
- Resolve issues escalated from the Circulation desk
- Manage seasonal Summer Library Assistant-Circulation staff including recruiting, training, evaluating, and disciplining staff
- Assist the Library Services Manager in managing Library Assistant-Circulation staff
Other Functions
- Maintain website and use website functions according to job duties, including managing program attendance statistics
- With the Grant Writer/fundraiser, identify projects for grant funding, assist in proposal writing, implement grant funded projects, and track expenses
- Pursue professional development opportunities and ensure department staff meet continuing education requirements
- Keep subordinates informed about library policy and procedure updates
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, sit and walk for extended periods of time and intermittently
- Dexterity is mandatory as this job requires frequent use of hands and fingers
- Ability to complete keyboard entry for extended periods of time
- Ability to talk, hear, and see
- Ability to pull, lift, and carry 30 pounds, push 50 pounds, and shelve materials on high as well as low shelves
- Ability to operate a motor vehicle

Required Education and Experience
Master's degree in Library Science from an ALA accredited institution
Preferred Education and Experience
5 years public library experience
Supervisory experience
Second language is a plus
Additional Eligibility Requirements
Valid driver's license, ability to pass Pennsylvania Child Abuse History Clearance, Pennsylvania State Police Criminal Record Check, and FBI Fingerprint Based Federal Criminal History Check.
