Location: WI - Our Organization's St. Mary’s Hospital - Janesville

Employment Type: PRN2

Department: Women’s Services

Schedule: PRN, variable shifts primarily during nights from 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM. Availability for 24 hours of weekend coverage every four weeks is required.

Preferred qualifications include at least one year of experience in Labor and Delivery; candidates with ICU backgrounds will also be considered.

Position Overview:

This role involves overseeing activities, workflows, and nursing resources within women’s services.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Gather and assess relevant health information to create and execute personalized care plans that include interventions aimed at achieving measurable outcomes for women and newborns, focusing on family-centered care.
  • Facilitate care delivery that emphasizes woman-, newborn-, and family-centered approaches within the defined scope of practice. Utilize health education strategies to promote, maintain, or restore health in a safe environment.
  • Monitor progress towards achieving expected outcomes in the context of family-centered care.
  • Make ethical decisions and take actions on behalf of women, fetuses, and newborns, guided by a solid ethical framework. Ensure care practices align with principles of cultural diversity and inclusion.
  • Engage in communication and collaboration with women, families, healthcare providers, and the community to deliver safe and holistic care.
  • Act as a role model, change agent, consultant, and mentor for women, families, healthcare consumers, and fellow professionals. Stay informed and maintain competencies that reflect current evidence-based nursing practices.
  • Utilize or integrate evidence to identify, assess, validate, and evaluate interprofessional knowledge and various approaches to care for women and newborns. Implement new measures to enhance the quality of nursing practice as needed.
  • Reflect on personal nursing practice and contribute to the evaluation of peers based on current evidence, professional standards, and regulations. Consider resource factors related to safety, effectiveness, technological advancements, and fiscal responsibility when planning care.
  • Ensure environmentally safe and healthy practices in the delivery of care to women, newborns, and families.
  • Apply established evidence-based practices and scientific knowledge in women’s services nursing, ensuring care is tailored to the specific needs of patients.
  • Maintain a constant state of alertness and safety while performing duties.
  • Carry out additional responsibilities as assigned.

Education:

  • Graduate from an accredited nursing school or equivalent educational background for licensing.

Experience:

  • No prior experience is required.

Physical Demands:

  • Regularly communicate verbally to share information.
  • Consistently stand and walk.
  • Frequently lift, carry, push, or pull objects weighing between 0-25 lbs.
  • Engage in frequent sitting, reaching, and data entry.
  • Utilize vision and depth perception for both near and far distances, as well as color differentiation.
  • Employ smell to detect and recognize odors.
  • Use hearing to receive verbal communication and identify body sounds or alarms.
  • Occasionally lift or move objects weighing 25-50 lbs.
  • Occasionally assist in lifting or moving patients.
  • Occasionally bend, stoop, kneel, squat, twist, grip, and perform repetitive movements with legs and arms.
  • Occasionally drive.
  • Rarely crawl or run.
