Job Description\n
American Traveler seeks an experienced RN with a current CA license for a Surgical ICU position with trauma and surgical patient care, every other weekend required.
\n \n Responsibilities\n
- Position is in the Surgical ICU with potential float to Trauma ICU within an acute care hospital
- Cares for both surgical and trauma patient populations, including vascular, thoracic, and abdominal surgeries, as well as trauma cases
- Typical ratios are 1:1 to 1:2, with 10 beds in SICU and 8 beds in TICU
- EMR system used is Cerner, experience preferred
- 12-hour day shifts starting at 6:45 AM, every other weekend required
- First to float policy applies, with floating possible to other Sacramento area facilities
- Rotating holiday coverage included
- Telemetry monitoring, ventilator management, and experience with CRRT and ECMO are required
- Scrub color is navy
- Patient care responsibilities include post-operative monitoring, management of lines, drains, CRRT, ECMO, and ventilators
- Support from charge nurse, nurse aides, RT, and pharmacy is available 24/7
- Bedside report conducted at shift start
- Self-scheduling is available but finalized by unit manager; block scheduling generally not available
- 1–2 days of orientation with a preceptor is provided
- Travelers are prioritized to float if needed
- Scrub undershirts must be navy, white, or black; scrub jackets are optional and must be navy
- Passing internal dysrhythmia and sterile technique competency tests is required during orientation
- Candidates must be able to rotate in for holiday coverage with core staff

- Active CA RN license required at the time of consideration
- Minimum of 2 years RN experience in ICU settings, with SICU/trauma experience preferred
- Certifications required: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS; TNCC preferred for TICU
- Must have ability to read and interpret EKG strips
- Previous employment within the last year at CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity facilities (as direct employee) disqualifies candidates
- Two professional references required: one supervisor reference from within the last 12 months, and one peer or supervisor reference from within the last 3 years
