Position Type: Physician - Hematology/Oncology - Staff Role

Practice Locations:

  • Albany - 315 South Manning Blvd, Albany, NY 12208
  • Troy - 2215 Burdett Ave, Troy, NY 12180
  • Operating Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM; closed on weekends.

PRACTICE OVERVIEW

Our organization collaborates with a leading cancer center in Buffalo, NY, to employ physicians for our hematology/oncology program.

  • Physicians typically manage 15-18 patients daily, with the option to increase this volume if desired.
  • Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) see around 10-12 patients each day.
  • During hospital rounds, physicians do not have assigned patients.
  • Average Daily Hospital Census: 20-30 patients.
  • Patient loads and office schedules are designed to be manageable and equitable.

Albany Clinic Average Volume: 5080 patients/day; Average Daily Infusion Visits: 3038 patients/day.

  • Troy Clinic Average Volume: 40 patients/day; Average Daily Infusion Visits: 15-20 patients/day.
  • Nurses, APPs, and physicians are involved in administering antineoplastic agents.
  • MDs and APPs perform intrathecal, intralesional, and intracavitary procedures.
  • Bone marrow and fine needle aspiration biopsies are primarily conducted by Interventional Radiology.
  • Nurses oversee VAD catheter management.
  • Intrapleural therapies are provided in an inpatient setting.
  • We are actively pursuing clinical trials in collaboration with our partner cancer center.
  • The Oncology Service Line consists of approximately 80% oncology and 20% benign hematology.
  • We are transitioning to a 1:1 MD to APP model within the Oncology Services Line.

PATIENT DEMOGRAPHICS

  • Patients come from diverse socio-economic backgrounds.
  • Age range includes Geriatric to Young Adult (no pediatric cases).
  • High patient volumes for pancreatic, breast, colon, and urological cancers.
  • Lower volumes for melanoma and renal cancers.
  • Physicians have access to various specialties within our system (Thoracic, GI, H&N, GU).
  • The GI group operates independently but collaborates effectively with our Oncology Service Line.
  • Our Oncology Service Line does not manage acute leukemias or currently have a BMT/TCT program.

Oncology Services Line: Dedicated APPs are assigned for both inpatient and outpatient services.

  • Support Staff:
  • Our nursing team achieved Magnet designation in 2022.
  • Each physician is paired with a Primary Nurse for triage and paperwork management.
  • Dedicated nurses are assigned in both Albany and Troy clinics to assist with patient intake.

Pharmacy Support: Four full-time pharmacists are available to assist with chemotherapy-related inquiries.

CALL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Inpatient consult/call responsibility follows a 1:5 schedule.
  • The future goal is to achieve a 1:7 schedule.
  • Hospitalists handle patient admissions, while dedicated inpatient APPs manage ongoing care.
  • After-hours call occurs Monday to Thursday every five weeks.
  • Weekend call is scheduled for Friday to Sunday every five weeks.
  • We utilize the EPIC electronic medical record system.

TUMOR BOARDS

We conduct tumor boards for GU, GI, Breast, Thoracic, and General oncology cases.

Virtual Access: Our team has virtual access to specialized tumor boards at our partner cancer center.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must possess Board Certification from the American Board of Internal Medicine with subspecialty certification in Medical Oncology and Hematology, or be in the process of obtaining it.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to patient-centered care and a desire to work collaboratively within a team.
  • Exhibits exceptional interpersonal skills alongside strong clinical abilities.
  • Shows enthusiasm and motivation to deliver optimal patient care and outcomes.

COMPENSATION PACKAGE

Our organization offers a comprehensive salary and benefits package that includes:

  • Annual Salary: $550,000 - $600,000 for the first two years, plus a WRVU productivity model.
  • Annual Salary: $650,000 for years three to five.
  • The stated salary reflects the initial range of total compensation and does not include productivity bonuses, quality and performance incentives, extra shift bonuses, or other cash compensation applicable to the role. Additionally, providers typically receive a CME allowance and other benefits from their medical group employer. This salary range is provided in accordance with state law and may vary based on the factors mentioned.
  • Quality Bonus: Available.
  • CME Allowance: $5,000.
  • Signing Bonus: Available.
  • Relocation Reimbursement: Available.
  • Contract Duration: 5-year contract with a stable/guaranteed base salary.
