Job Description

Seeking a detail-oriented and accurate Certified Medical Coder with experience in Durable Medical Equipment (DME) coding, ideally within the Workers’ Compensation sector. The role involves applying knowledge of state-specific workers’ comp guidelines and payer rules to ensure compliant billing and proper reimbursement through accurate HCPCS coding.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Accurately assign and sequence medical codes in compliance with government and insurance regulations.
  • Apply state-specific Workers’ Compensation rules, including fee schedules and documentation requirements.
  • Review and verify orders, contracts, and provider data for accuracy.
  • Communicate with staff to clarify incomplete or unclear information.
  • Identify and correct coding issues to support clean claim submissions.
  • Handle denials and documentation requests with timely and compliant resubmissions.
  • Ensure all coding practices meet HIPAA, OIG, and industry compliance standards.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by management.

Qualifications:

  • Experience: 2–5 years in healthcare coding.
  • **Education: High school diploma or GED required; Associate’s degree or equivalent training preferred.
  • Certification: CPC, CCS-P, or CCS preferred.
  • Technical Skills: Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) and experienced with EHR/EMR and billing software (e.g., Kareo, Brightree, or similar).
  • Knowledge: Strong understanding of HCPCS Level II codes and medical billing procedures.
