Job Title: Clinical Nurse ManagerEssential Functions

The Clinical Nurse Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily clinical operations of the surgery center. This role encompasses a variety of tasks, including managing clinical staff, controlling medical supplies and equipment, ensuring quality assurance and improvement, and handling risk management.

Supervision

Reports to the Administrator.

Experience and Qualifications

  • Graduation from an accredited nursing program; a BSN is preferred.
  • Possession of a current Registered Nurse License in the state.
  • Familiarity with operating room, pre-operative, and post-anesthesia care unit policies and procedures.
  • A minimum of two years of management experience in Surgical Services.

Licensure and Certifications Required

  • Valid Illinois state nursing license.
  • Current certifications in BCLS, ACLS, and PALS.

Key Responsibilities

  • Clinical Operations Management: Oversee daily internal processes, manage staffing and assignments for clinical personnel, serve as a backup for Circulator, Pre-op, and PACU, ensure compliance with operating policies and procedures, perform IV insertions, conduct weekly meetings with administration and/or managers, and address patient survey responses.
  • Inventory Management: Supervise the ordering of supplies and linens, ensure preference cards are current, and monitor the entry of supply charges into the Patient Accounting System.
  • Quality Assurance and Compliance: Assist in coordinating equipment repairs, maintain compliance with risk management protocols (including generator, pharmacy reviews, radiology, state inspections, infection control reports, and incident reports), manage the QA program (including checklists, audits, peer reviews, quality improvement initiatives, and employee competency), and coordinate annual inspections (life safety, pharmacy, radiology, biohazard, etc.). Act as a backup coordinator for quarterly board meetings as needed.
  • Employee Management: Facilitate employee education and risk management, maintain up-to-date employee health records, conduct monthly clinical staff meetings, organize fire and disaster drills, and perform evaluations for clinical staff.
  • Marketing: Manage customer and patient relations, address issues with physician office staff, implement new physician preferences and paperwork, and train staff according to specialty requirements.

Physical and Mental Demands

  • Ability to remain on your feet for extended periods and assist with lifting or turning patients.
  • Requires both sitting and standing typical of an office environment.
  • Capacity to focus for up to four hours at a time.
  • Effective verbal communication skills, both in person and over the phone.
  • Proficiency in using a computer keyboard and viewing a computer monitor.

Environmental and Working Conditions

This position is situated in a busy office environment with significant telephone interaction. Most roles are conducted in a climate-controlled office during standard business hours, with occasional evening and weekend work required.
