Job DescriptionWe are looking for a skilled Staff Accountant to join our team in Washington, District of Columbia. This long-term contract position offers an opportunity to contribute to a non-profit organization by ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial data while supporting various accounting and reporting functions. The ideal candidate will play a key role in financial planning, compliance, and process optimization.

Responsibilities:
• Perform monthly close processes to ensure the general ledger is accurate, timely, and reconciled with appropriate schedules.
• Prepare internal and external financial reports, ensuring compliance with U.S. regulations and organizational standards.
• Develop grant proposal budgets, coordinate invoicing, and manage federal reimbursement submissions.
• Collaborate with external auditors and provide necessary documentation to support the annual audit process.
• Monitor and ensure compliance with financial reporting requirements, including local charter school board regulations.
• Assist in annual budgeting and quarterly forecasting processes, working closely with department leaders.
• Generate financial planning reports, including variance analysis, cash flow projections, and project-specific financial statements.
• Create and maintain financial models to support strategic initiatives, grant proposals, and decision-making processes.
• Lead improvements in financial systems and processes, implementing automation to enhance efficiency and data integrity.
• Manage special projects aimed at optimizing financial operations and reporting capabilities.• Proficiency in journal entries, including adjustments and monthly postings.
• Strong knowledge of general ledger functions and financial reporting processes.
• Experience with Sage Intacct or similar financial systems.
• Ability to perform detailed financial analysis and deliver actionable insights.
• Expertise in month-end and year-end closing processes.
• Proven ability to manage compliance requirements and prepare accurate budget reports.
• Familiarity with financial modeling and variance analysis methodologies.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail to ensure accuracy in all financial activities.
