Job purpose

Drives truck with capacity of more than 3 tons, to transport materials to and from specified destinations, by performing the following duties.


Duties and responsibilities

  • Drives truck to destination. Delivers materials to our customers, attains appropriate signatures on packing slips and returns signed packing slips to DeWys Manufacturing.
  • Maintains telephone accessibility with plant to receive delivery or pick-up instructions.
  • Inspects truck equipment and supplies such as tires, lights, brakes, gas, oil, and water.
  • Positions blocks and ties rope around items to secure all materials during transit.
  • Unexpected roadside emergencies are reported immediately to team facilitator.
  • Assumes the Shipping Coordinator duties when team member is not driving truck or making deliveries. These duties include the following:
  • Compares identifying information and counts, weighs, or measures items of incoming and outgoing shipments to verify information against bills of lading, invoices, orders, or other records.
  • Determines method of shipment.
  • Posts weights and shipping charges, and affixes postage.
  • Coordinate shipments of similar parts to silk screening to minimize lot charges, then verify we are not charged by the part number when product returns.
  • Generate packing list and bill of lading documents as needed.
  • Review daily ship schedule.
  • Expedite all late or short cycled outside service items.
  • Maintains inventory of shipping and other departmental packaging materials and supplies.
  • Operates lift truck or uses hand truck to move, convey, or hoist shipments from shipping and receiving areas to work centers, office or storage.
  • May assume additional responsibilities per Team Facilitator’s direction.


Requirements:

Qualifications

  • High school education; or one to three months related experience and/or training. Must be capable of working with resource planning systems (bar coding) for proper recording of operations, time and labor. Must be a team player continually demonstrating desired standardization, synchronization and disciplines required in materials team.
  • Needs to be able to read and comprehend instructions, directions and local area maps. Must be capable of communicating effectively with customers when making deliveries and with fellow team members. Needs to be able to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other team members of the organization.
  • Needs to be able to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Must possess a current CDL-A license to drive the REFAB 26’Straight Truck. Must possess a valid Michigan driver's license.

Working conditions

While performing the duties of this job, the team member is constantly exposed to outside weather conditions and must take appropriate actions to safely operate company vehicles. The noise level while operating company vehicles varies from moderate to loud, depending upon the amount of traffic in which they are driving.


Physical requirements

While performing the duties of this job, the team member is regularly required to drive a delivery or semi-tractor trailer truck to make deliveries to our customers. The team facilitator must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Loads and unloads shipments with lift truck or hand truck. Specific vision abilities required by this job include distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception to enable the team member to operate company vehicles for local and distant deliveries.
