Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON)

Position Overview
The Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) serves as the operational engine of the nursing department, partnering closely with the Director of Nursing (DON) to oversee daily clinical operations and ensure the highest standards of resident care.
This is a high-visibility leadership role that bridges administration and bedside care — ideal for a strong clinical leader ready to take the next step in their career.
Key Responsibilities:
Clinical Supervision
- Provide daily oversight of RNs, LPNs, and CNAs
- Ensure clinical protocols are followed and care is delivered safely and efficiently
Staff Development & Training
- Lead onboarding and clinical orientation for new hires
- Conduct skills validations and ongoing in-service education
Compliance & Survey Readiness
- Support the DON in maintaining continuous survey readiness
- Perform chart audits, medication pass observations, and environmental rounds
- Ensure compliance with Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) and state Department of Health regulations
Program Leadership
- Oversee key clinical programs such as Infection Control, Wound Care, or Restorative Nursing
Clinical Triage & Communication
- Serve as a resource to floor nurses on complex clinical matters
- Ensure timely communication with physicians and families regarding changes in resident condition
Performance Management
- Assist with staff scheduling and performance evaluations
- Support positive employee relations and help resolve grievances
Candidate Requirements
Licensure
- Active, unencumbered Registered Nurse (RN) license in New York
Experience
- Minimum 2–3 years of experience in Long-Term Care (LTC) or Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF)
- Prior supervisory or Charge Nurse experience required
- Unit Manager experience preferred
Knowledge & Skills
- Working knowledge of DOH and CMS regulations
- Strong clinical assessment skills, particularly with high-acuity residents
- Experience with Electronic Health Records (EHR); familiarity with PointClickCare or SigmaCare preferred
