Position Summary
Continental Forge Company is seeking an experienced Machine Setup / CNC Programmer to support machining operations within a precision aerospace forging environment. This position is responsible for programming, setting up, operating, and troubleshooting CNC machining equipment including HAAS Vertical Machining Centers, V3 Vertical Machining equipment, V9 Vertical Machining equipment, Femco lathes, multi-axis rotary table equipment, and other milling machinery.
The ideal candidate will possess strong CNC programming and setup experience, the ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, create and modify machining programs, and independently support production with minimal supervision. This role requires a hands-on individual capable of taking a job from blueprint through production while maintaining quality, safety, and efficiency standards.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
CNC Programming
- Create, modify, and optimize CNC machining programs.
- Develop machining processes utilizing engineering drawings, CAD models, and customer specifications.
- Generate tool paths and machine programs using CAD/CAM software.
- Edit programs at the machine as necessary to improve cycle times and product quality.
- Troubleshoot machining issues and implement process improvements.
Machine Setup
- Perform complete machine setups including fixtures, tooling, offsets, and program verification.
- Set up and operate HAAS, V3, and V9 machining centers, Femco lathes, and multi-axis rotary table equipment.
- Verify machine readiness prior to production runs.
- Conduct first-piece inspections and validate dimensional requirements.
- Adjust feeds, speeds, tooling, and machine parameters as required.
Production Support
- Run production jobs as required.
- Monitor machining operations to ensure product conformity and process stability.
- Train operators on machine operation and setup requirements.
- Assist with troubleshooting production and quality issues.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives.
Quality & Documentation
- Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, GD&T, and customer specifications.
- Verify dimensional tolerances using precision measuring instruments.
- Complete production documentation and inspection records.
- Maintain compliance with aerospace quality standards and internal procedures.
Safety
- Follow all Company safety policies and procedures.
- Utilize required PPE and maintain a safe work environment.
- Report safety concerns, equipment issues, and process hazards immediately.
Qualifications & Experience
Required
- High School Diploma or GED.
- 3–5 years of CNC setup and programming experience.
- Experience with:
- HAAS, V3, & V9 Machining Centers
- Femco Lathes
- Multi-Axis Rotary Table Equipment
- CNC Milling Equipment
- Ability to independently set up, program, and run production jobs with minimal supervision.
- Strong blueprint reading skills.
- Experience with GD&T.
- Experience using precision measuring equipment.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
Software Knowledge
Experience with one or more of the following is preferred:
- Mastercam
- Fusion 360
- SolidWorks
- SolidWorks CAM
- AutoCAD
- GibbsCAM
- CAMWorks
- HAAS CNC Controls
Ability to read, interpret, and work from CAD models and engineering drawings.
Physical Requirements
- Regularly required to stand and walk for extended periods.
- Frequently required to use hands and arms for machine setup and operation.
- Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 25 pounds.
- Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, reach, and climb as necessary.
- Ability to work around moving mechanical equipment.
- Ability to wear required PPE including safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, steel-toed footwear, and other protective equipment as required.
Work Environment
- Manufacturing and aerospace forging environment.
- Exposure to moving machinery, cutting fluids, metal chips, noise, vibration, and airborne particles.
- Hearing protection and other PPE required in designated areas.
