REPORTS TO: Senior Director of Residential Services

CLASSIFICATION: Full-Time, Exempt

This is an in-person employment opportunity.

ORGANIZATION OVERVIEW:

Turning Point, Inc in Mount Clemens, MI is a non-profit, 501(c)(3) organization qualified employer for Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF). Turning Point, Inc empowers survivors of domestic violence, sexual violence, and human trafficking through comprehensive services and resources while advocating for community action to end oppression and violence. We offer emergency shelter, housing, advocacy/counseling, forensic nurse examiner program & first response advocacy services, 24-hour hotline, personal protection order assistance and legal advocacy, community education, and systems change.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Director of Hotline is responsible for the leadership of staff providing quality, crisis intervention services through the 24-hour hotline program for victims/survivors of domestic violence, sexual violence, and human trafficking. This position is responsible for the everyday operation and delivery of services of the 24-hour hotline, including providing for the training, supervision and development of staff, volunteers and interns. This position is also responsible for meeting grant requirements and program development.

SUPERVISION RESPONSIBILITIES:

This position is responsible for the hiring, training, development and supervision of all program staff. The Director is also responsible for supervising program interns and volunteers.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE:

The ideal candidate must have knowledge of survivor-centered, trauma-informed, and advocacy-based interventions with survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault and human trafficking that are rooted in anti-oppression values and the empowerment model. Specific knowledge in housing, crisis intervention, trauma-informed practices, lethality assessments, group facilitation, and safety planning are desired as are demonstrated success building teams, collaborating with peers, and solving problems. Candidates must also have knowledge of advocacy with survivors in various systems including healthcare, criminal justice, family court, child welfare, education, and human services. Additionally, candidate should have knowledge about victim’s rights, community resources, and the impact of violence on survivors and loved ones. The ideal candidate must have strong written and verbal communication skills. As our free, confidential services are inclusive and accessible to honor the unique needs, identities, and experiences of individuals who identify as a survivor of domestic violence, sexual violence, or human trafficking, candidates must demonstrate the ability to work with all survivors and understand the unique barriers that survivors with intersecting oppressed identities will encounter. Candidates must also demonstrate knowledge of the cultural and societal influences that impact survivors’ experiences and healing, as well as trauma-informed counseling practices for both adult and child survivors. Additionally, skills in assessing and intervening with suicidal clients are essential to ensure safety and support through crisis-responsive, survivor-centered approaches.

EDUCATION:

A Master’s Degree in Social Work or related field is preferred or a Bachelor’s Degree with a minimum of 3 years of experience.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Implement agency and program mission and empowerment philosophy.
  • Administer and implement agency policies and procedures.
  • Maintain agency policy on confidentiality, record keeping and professional ethics.
  • Responsible for the continued training and development of staff skills regarding crisis intervention, domestic violence, sexual violence, human trafficking, and other skills necessary to deliver quality services.
  • Provide crisis intervention, resources, and supportive services to callers.
  • Responsible for hiring, supervision, and staff development of program staff in collaboration with the Senior Director of Residential Services. including facilitating at minimum bi-weekly structured supervision of all program staff.
  • Create monthly staff, intern, and volunteer schedule. This includes providing staff backup as needed.
  • Responsible for bi-monthly data monitoring in alignment with the agency procedure to ensure the integrity and accuracy of data input by program staff.
  • Ensure accurate data collection for grant and contract reports.
  • Ensure timely completion of program reports that are required by grants and contracts or requested by Senior Director of Residential Services.
  • Monitor and review of all data entry forms providing feedback and corrections to staff and retraining if necessary.
  • Provide crisis intervention, resources, and supportive services to shelter residents.
  • Demonstrate self as a team leader working to solve problems across departments.
  • Meets regularly with staff, interns and volunteers for purpose of staff development.
  • Demonstrates ability & opportunities to provide confirming and corrective feedback for the goal of developing and enhancing staff skills.
  • Provide on-call emergency support for hotline and shelter staff on a rotating basis.
  • Utilizes program data for program improvement and staff education.
  • Monitor and ensure program purchases and petty cash fund by department staff follow finance policy and procedure.
  • Serve as a link between Shelter program and the Senior Director of Residential Services.
  • Conduct relationships with colleagues to promote mutual respect, improvement of services, and problem solving
  • Participate in applicable staff and committee meetings, and other meetings deemed necessary by Turning Point.
  • Cooperates with all other Turning Point programs to achieve organizational goals.
  • Notify the Senior Director of Residential Services or Chief Executive Officer of any emergencies that may affect Turning Point staff and clients.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

Working Conditions:

  • Must pass central registry and criminal background check as a condition of employment.
  • Must have reliable transportation, insurance, a valid Michigan Driver’s License and a good driving record.
  • Must have the ability to work with diverse populations.
  • Must have knowledge and experience in program development and evaluation.
  • Must have extensive knowledge and understanding of violence against women, crisis intervention, and the empowerment model of counseling and related issues of programming.
  • Must be able to work independently and multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability and willingness to be available for non-scheduled emergency call-in when necessary.
  • Ability to lift 20 lbs.
  • Allows for flexibility in schedule and job function.
  • Ability to climb stairs.
