POSITION SUMMARY: To operate and make necessary adjustments to various CNC Horizontal or Vertical Machining Centers to produce high quality products to required specifications.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Load and unload parts and inspect finished parts to close and exacting tolerances and finish specifications. Should be familiar with many or all the following: Mazak, Okuma and Doosan Lathes.
- Must be familiar with machine operations and controller settings for operations such as turning, boring, drilling, tapping, thread-milling, profiling, and contouring. Adjust the machine to control speed, feed and adjustments to compensate for tool wear as well as make sure the machine is working well and producing quality products.
- Must work from drawings and specifications. Be familiar with production processes and understand job packet documents. Must be able to set-up new jobs and repeat jobs with limited help.
- Must have the ability to perform in process measurements and keep parts in statistical process control. Good knowledge of Metrology methods.
- Perform a variety of general maintenance activities or other duties as assigned by supervisor.
- Responsible for machine daily maintenance checks and scheduled preventative maintenance.
- Responsible for a clean, orderly and safe work area.
- Specific duties and general shop skills pertaining to: Quality Control, Unsupervised machine adjustments – tool offsets, Production processes, Supervised machine adjustments – program and cutting parameters.
- Adhere to Employee’s responsibilities outlined in Cygnus’ Health & Safety Policy.
Required Experience:
- High School Education with Vo-Tech or Technical School background or equivalent with at least 7 years machining experience required.
- Journeyperson or NIMS papers preferred.
- Knowledge of machining techniques and methods.
- Familiarity with CNC Machine tool operating procedures.
- Good practical skills/mechanically inclined.
- Must possess knowledge of algebra, geometry, and trigonometry.
- Good computer and problem-solving skills.
- The ability to work unsupervised with a high level of accuracy.
- Keen attention to detail, concentration, and focus.
- Ability to work from technical drawings (blueprints).
- Ability to understand the machining of different materials (i.e. stainless steel, steel, brass, aluminum, plastics).
- Ability to read and edit programs and conversational programs.
- Must be able to stand for long periods of time and safely carry up to 40 pounds.
- Ability to work in a manufacturing shop environment (including hot, cold and/or noisy areas).
- Frequent hand to finger, handle, feel objects & tools, walking, sitting, reaching, stooping, kneeling, crouching, talking and hearing.
- Ability to work overtime as needed.
- Physically submit to periodic drug tests (employment is contingent upon favorable results)
