Job Details
• Provide social services to patients and their families at OU Health under general supervision.
• Conduct discharge planning evaluations and psychosocial assessments.
• Counsel patients and others regarding diseases, treatments, social or financial situations, emotional stress, and other problems.
• Provide crisis counseling and intervention for high social risk cases including child abuse or neglect and physical abuse.
• Act as liaison between patients/families and hospital staff and other agencies.
• Evaluate effectiveness of services and adjust patient care as needed.
• Assist in discharge planning and referrals to community services and post-acute care facilities.
• Assist patients and families with adverse reactions or difficult adjustments to illness, treatment, or changes in functional status.
• Utilize specialized interviewing and communication skills with children.
• Advocate for patients on issues related to informed decision making, end-of-life care, goal setting, and ethical dilemmas.
• May prepare statistics concerning referrals and extended stays.
• May supervise students or newly hired employees.

Job Requirements
• Hospital experience preferred.
• Knowledge of principles and practices of social and psychological casework.
• Knowledge of social and welfare resources available in the community and hospital.
• Analytical skills to interpret situations and determine appropriate actions.
• Ability to explain technical data understandably to patients, families, and hospital staff.
• Good interpersonal skills.
• Master’s Degree in Social Work from an accredited school.
• LMSW (Licensed Master Social Worker) strongly preferred.
