Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Medical Assistant to provide administrative and clinical support under licensed providers in a correctional healthcare setting. This role requires professionalism, efficiency, and the ability to work independently within established clinical processes.
Pay: $25-$27/hr
Contract: 6 mos (extensions available)
Schedule: M-F 7a-3:30pm
Minimum Qualifications
- 12 months of hands-on Medical Assistant experience within the past 3 years
(Internships do not count) - Current Medical Assistant Certificate issued by a California Department of Consumer Affairs–approved agency (Must be either from AAMA, AMCA, AMT, CCBMA, or MMCI)
- Current BLS certification through the American Heart Association (AHA)
- Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English
Key Responsibilities
Under provider supervision, duties may include:
- Measure and record vital signs
- Administer injections, skin tests, and breathing treatments
- Administer medications topically, orally, and sublingually
- Perform capillary and venipuncture blood draws
- Collect and label lab specimens
- Conduct CLIA-waived point-of-care testing
- Assist providers during exams and treatments
- Prepare patients and exam rooms
- Remove sutures, casts, splints, and change dressings
- Perform basic vision tests
- Explain procedures and instructions to patients
- Observe, document, and report clinical findings
- Maintain accurate medical records
- Follow infection control and universal precautions
- Maintain patient confidentiality
- Schedule patients and manage clinic supplies
