Position Title: Ward Clerk

Department: Detox Unit

Reports To: RN on Duty

POSITION SUMMARY

Responsible for a variety of duties in the Detox Unit/Nursing Station, i.e., answering telephone calls, taking dietary and daily census, giving general information, etc.

HOURS

8 Hours per Day / 5 Days per Week

CATEGORIES OF DUTIES

  1. Answering all telephone calls received on the Detox Unit.
  1. In charge of the daily census, dietary census and nourishment list.
  1. Keep patients charts in order and does all necessary filing.
  1. Responsible for giving patients general information about the Detox Unit and delivering patient’s mail.
  1. Meets the non-medical and non-emotional needs of the patients.
  1. Assists the RN with administrative tasks, i.e., preparing twenty-four (24) hour reports for the nursing office, phones admitting office daily for list of new admissions, receives and directs visiting counselors.
  1. Transcribes the Physician’s Orders to Kardex.
  1. Writes medication cards.
  1. Responsible for filing all lab work in patient’s charts.
  1. Breaks-down patient’s charts after discharge and send to the HIM Department.
  1. Maintains secretarial supplies for the Detox Unit, notifies maintenance of repairs needed and keeps the Nursing Station neat, orderly and clean.
  1. Assists doctors and nurses when needed and runs errands on the ward.
  1. Other duties as assigned by Director and/or Administrator.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

High School Diploma or G.E.D.
