Structural Steel CWI & NDT Inspector
Job Description
Job DescriptionShape the safety of heavy steel structures—one weld at a time
Step onto the production floor of a leading manufacturer of fabricated steel products, and you’re the quality gatekeeper. As our on-site Certified Welding Inspector (CWI), you’ll move from station to station—cutting, punching, shearing, stamping, notching, welding, and painting—verifying that every assembly designed to carry heavy loads meets code, print, and performance expectations.
A day in this role
You arrive, gear up (all PPE and test equipment provided), review fabrication drawings and work orders, and plan your inspection route. Throughout your shift, you perform visual checks and non-destructive examinations, confirm GMAW spray transfer weld parameters and technique, and document each step in clear, accurate reports. By end of day, your records are complete, nonconformances are communicated, and product integrity is assured.
What you’ll do
- Conduct on-site inspection and testing of welded steel assemblies intended for heavy-load applications.
- Read and interpret engineering drawings/fabrication blueprints to validate compliance.
- Continuously monitor and document manufacturing operations: cutting, punching, shearing, stamping, notching, welding, and paint.
- Verify GMAW Spray Transfer processes align with requirements.
- Perform and/or assess NDI methods—visual as a must; magnetic particle, dye penetrant, and ultrasonic preferred.
- Maintain thorough daily inspection records and produce reports using MS Office.
- Identify cracks, corrosion, improper fusion, and any defect compromising structural integrity.
What you bring
- Current AWS CWI certification with 3+ years of relevant inspection experience.
- Fluency in blueprint reading and engineering symbols.
- Sharp defect-recognition skills across welds and structures.
- Proficiency with MS Office and report generation.
- Background from manufacturing is ideal; construction, civil engineering, defense, marine, or aerospace experience also considered.
Schedule, location, and compensation
- On-site role with a four-day workweek (4x10s).
- Day and night shifts available; additional day-shift opening near Florence, South Carolina.
- Pay: $35–$40 per hour, with strong company benefits.
Tools and processes you’ll encounter
- Processes: GMAW Spray Transfer; visual, MT, PT, and UT inspection (preferred).
- Equipment: MIG and TIG welders, paint sprayers, and visual inspection aids.
Why join us
- All PPE and necessary testing equipment provided.
- Collaborative, safety-first culture focused on precision and integrity.
- Impactful work ensuring the reliability of heavy structural fabrications.
