Location: Jacksonville, FL metro area (preference given to local candidates)
Salary: Competitive base salary (lower than typical senior roles) plus an enhanced commission structure tied to new won work
Reports to: Director of Operations / Business Unit Head
Position Summary:
We are seeking a proactive, experienced construction professional to join our team as Project Manager. The ideal candidate will have prior field experience as a Project Engineer or Superintendent with a general contracting firm, and must be ready to step into a Project Manager role that includes both project execution and business development responsibilities. The role will focus on commercial, healthcare, industrial and manufacturing-type construction projects, ideally with experience in MEP/CSA (mechanical, electrical, plumbing, controls & special systems) scopes. The candidate should have strong market awareness in the Jacksonville region and ability to build and maintain client relationships.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead full project delivery: planning, budgeting, scheduling, resourcing, execution, commissioning/close-out as applicable for commercial/healthcare/industrial/manufacturing projects.
- Manage subcontractors, suppliers, onsite staff and internal teams; ensure work is completed on time, within budget, to quality and safety standards.
- Monitor project performance: cost control, schedule forecasting, risk mitigation, change-order management, quality assurance, safety compliance.
- Collaborate in project start-up: review contract documents, scope development, subcontractor selection/negotiation, logistics planning, constructability, value-engineering opportunities.
- Participate actively in business development: identify and pursue new project opportunities in the Jacksonville area, engage prospective owners/clients, assist with RFP responses, preconstruction discussions and proposal development.
- Build and nurture client relationships, design-team relationships, subcontractor/trade relationships and community contact points to generate repeat business.
- Provide leadership and mentorship to project engineers, superintendents and field staff; promote teamwork and professional development.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, safety standards, quality standards, contract requirements and applicable regulatory requirements (especially in healthcare/industrial/manufacturing sectors).
Required Qualifications & Experience:
- Minimum of 5-10 years’ experience in the construction industry; must have prior experience as a Project Engineer or Superintendent for a general contracting firm.
- Demonstrated experience managing construction projects (commercial, healthcare, industrial, manufacturing) from start to finish.
- Proven track record or strong appetite for business development activities (client cultivation, pursuit involvement, RFPs, proposal support, new business pipelines).
- Experience or familiarity with MEP/CSA scopes (mechanical, electrical, plumbing, controls, special systems) is highly preferred.
- Strong understanding of construction processes: cost control, scheduling, subcontractor management, quality, safety, close-out procedures.
- Well-versed in reading/interpreting drawings, specifications, scopes of work, construction documents.
- Excellent communication, negotiation and relationship-building skills.
- Self-starter with high level of professionalism, integrity and business acumen.
- Strong leadership and people management capability; ability to lead cross-functional teams.
- Local to the Jacksonville region or willing to relocate/commute; strong network or familiarity with the local market is a plus.
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture or related field is preferred but equivalent experience will be considered.
Preferred Attributes:
- Experience in healthcare or manufacturing facility construction (clean rooms, process systems, industrial utilities) is a differentiator.
- Experience with quality control, commissioning/validation (especially for manufacturing/industrial clients).
- Established client relationships in the Jacksonville or broader Florida region.
- Desire to grow business and take on measurable responsibility for new project acquisition.
- Comfortable operating in a dynamic, growth-oriented environment where the base salary is competitive and upside comes via commission from won work.
