About CMI: At Central Moloney, we don't just make transformers — we help power communities. For more than 40 years, our ISO 9001-certified team has built a reputation for innovation, reliability, and craftsmanship. Our products keep homes lit, schools running, and businesses moving forward across the country. We take pride in a culture where people roll up their sleeves, work together, and keep safety and quality at the heart of everything we do.

About the Role: As a Weld Quality Technician at Central Moloney, you're the last line of defense before a transformer tank moves down the line. You'll conduct visual weld inspections on transformer tanks, identify and correct non-conformances, and document your findings — all while working alongside a production team that takes quality seriously. This is a hands-on quality control role in a stable, growing manufacturing environment. No CWI certification required — just a sharp eye, welding knowledge, and a commitment to getting it right.

What You'll Do:

  • Perform visual weld inspections on transformer tanks prior to the wash system, checking for weld defects, non-conformances, and dimensional accuracy
  • Identify and correct weld issues including spatter, porosity, undercut, cracking, slag inclusions, and improper weld profiles
  • Inspect welds during and after the welding process, verifying size, profile, reinforcement, and quality conformance
  • Review shop drawings and engineering documents to verify welds meet specifications and dimensional requirements
  • Use weld gauges, calipers, and other measuring tools to confirm weld dimensions and tolerances
  • Document inspection results, non-conformances (NCRs), and corrective actions accurately and in a timely manner
  • Communicate quality findings to welders, supervisors, and production teams and recommend corrective actions
  • Support root cause analysis on recurring weld defects and quality issues
  • Conduct process audits to ensure adherence to CMI quality standards and AWS visual inspection criteria
  • Adhere to all safety protocols including PPE requirements
  • Other quality-related duties as assigned

Requirements

What You'll Need:

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • 2+ years of welding or manufacturing quality control experience required
  • Experience performing visual weld inspections and identifying common weld defects (porosity, undercut, cracking, slag inclusions, improper profiles)
  • Ability to read and interpret shop drawings, blueprints, and welding specifications
  • Experience using weld gauges, calipers, and other measuring tools to confirm dimensions and tolerances
  • Basic computer skills — familiarity with documentation systems and Microsoft Office
  • Strong attention to detail and solid math and problem-solving skills
  • Good verbal and written communication skills to relay findings clearly to welders and production teams
  • Reliable attendance, strong work ethic, and a quality-first mindset
  • AWS CWI certification a plus — not required
  • Willingness to undergo background check, drug test, and physical

Physical & Environmental Requirements:

  • Lifting: Able to lift 50 pounds unassisted.
  • Environment: Work in a facility with loud noise, extreme temperatures, and environmental stressors.
  • Physical Activities: Sit, stand, walk, bend, climb, crouch, reach, and grasp as needed.
  • PPE: Wear required PPE, including eye and hearing protection, gloves, and safety toe footwear.
  • Dexterity and Vision: Manual dexterity and specific vision abilities (close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, and focus adjustment).
  • Stamina: Stand for long shifts.
  • Skills: Effective communication, basic math skills, and teamwork.
  • Safety: Adhere to safety protocols and address hazards.
