About the Role
We are hiring a hands-on Structural Steel Fabrication Lead to help direct daily shop activities and keep fabrication work moving safely and efficiently. This position provides day-to-day guidance to fitters, welders, and other fabrication personnel while coordinating workflow, quality, and production priorities.
The right candidate will have solid structural steel experience and the ability to lead a busy fabrication team while also providing practical technical support on the shop floor.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate daily fabrication activities and help meet production and delivery schedules.
- Direct fitters, welders, and fabrication employees and distribute work based on shop priorities.
- Balance workloads and monitor progress to maintain efficient production.
- Provide hands-on guidance with fit-up, welding, layout, and blueprint interpretation.
- Address fabrication problems and help determine practical solutions.
- Communicate production status, schedule changes, and potential delays to shop leadership.
- Promote safe work practices, quality requirements, and shop procedures.
- Work with maintenance personnel to address equipment issues and minimize downtime.
- Coordinate with Quality Control on inspections and fabrication requirements.
- Assist with dimensional verification, inspections, and required documentation.
- Help train and onboard employees and support ongoing employee development.
- Maintain an organized, clean, and safe work area.
- Perform other shop leadership duties as needed.
Qualifications
- 3+ years of experience leading or supervising structural steel fabrication teams.
- Strong experience with welding, fit-up, layout, and structural steel fabrication.
- Experience operating or working around CNC fabrication equipment and shop machinery.
- Ability to read and interpret fabrication drawings and blueprints.
- Understanding of shop safety, quality requirements, and production processes.
- Tekla EPM/GO experience preferred.
- Strong leadership, communication, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
- Willingness to work overtime, weekends, or flexible hours when production requirements call for it.
