Shift: 3rd Shift 10:00pm - 6:30am EST, shifts variable
Job Description:
The SPT I is responsible for general support functions within the Specimen Processing Department. This position requires a data entry background. The SPT I must have to the ability learn and understand the compliance regulations related to test ordering which may change on a daily basis. This position is critical to quality for customer satisfaction. Additionally, since many changes do occur from day to day, great flexibility on the part of the SPT I is required. Key Responsibilities:
- Perform specimen processing tasks including A station, presort, centrifugation, aliquoting, imaging/microfilming, and delivery of processed specimens to the laboratory.
- Accurately perform data entry with the ability to meet productivity requirements (6,000 alphanumeric keystrokes per hour).
- Identify and understand various specimen types and the corresponding tests ordered.
- Learn and stay up to date on test-order compliance regulations, which may change frequently.
- Adhere to productivity, quality, and departmental turnaround time standards.
- Work safely in a biohazard environment and follow proper safety and compliance procedures.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area.
- Communicate effectively with team members and staff at all levels.
- Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills that promote a positive and collaborative work environment.
- Adapt to frequent changes in workload, procedures, and departmental priorities.
- Work weekends, holidays, overtime, and on-call shifts as required by staffing needs.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements:
- Production focused laboratory environment.
- Extended periods of sitting or standing.
- Biohazard exposure; required to follow strict safety protocols.
Required Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Basic computer skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous laboratory or clinical setting experience.
- Medical background, including familiarity with medical terminology.
- Experience in a production or high-volume data entry environment.
- Prior hospital laboratory experience is a plus.
