Location: Pittsburgh, PA
Duration: 2+ Months (Possibility of Extension)
Shift: 3rd Shift 10:00pm - 6:30am EST, shifts variable

Job Description:
The SPT I is responsible for general support functions within the Specimen Processing Department. This position requires a data entry background. The SPT I must have to the ability learn and understand the compliance regulations related to test ordering which may change on a daily basis. This position is critical to quality for customer satisfaction. Additionally, since many changes do occur from day to day, great flexibility on the part of the SPT I is required. Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform specimen processing tasks including A station, presort, centrifugation, aliquoting, imaging/microfilming, and delivery of processed specimens to the laboratory.
  • Accurately perform data entry with the ability to meet productivity requirements (6,000 alphanumeric keystrokes per hour).
  • Identify and understand various specimen types and the corresponding tests ordered.
  • Learn and stay up to date on test-order compliance regulations, which may change frequently.
  • Adhere to productivity, quality, and departmental turnaround time standards.
  • Work safely in a biohazard environment and follow proper safety and compliance procedures.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area.
  • Communicate effectively with team members and staff at all levels.
  • Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills that promote a positive and collaborative work environment.
  • Adapt to frequent changes in workload, procedures, and departmental priorities.
  • Work weekends, holidays, overtime, and on-call shifts as required by staffing needs.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements:

  • Production focused laboratory environment.
  • Extended periods of sitting or standing.
  • Biohazard exposure; required to follow strict safety protocols.

Required Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Basic computer skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous laboratory or clinical setting experience.
  • Medical background, including familiarity with medical terminology.
  • Experience in a production or high-volume data entry environment.
  • Prior hospital laboratory experience is a plus.
