We are seeking an experienced Senior Estimator to join our growing team and contribute to developing competitive, accurate, and comprehensive cost estimates that support our project bids and strategic goals.


Position Overview

The Senior Estimator will be responsible for preparing detailed cost estimates for large-scale automotive manufacturing capital equipment projects. The ideal candidate will bring at least 6+ years of experience in estimating, strong knowledge of manufacturing processes, and the ability to collaborate closely with engineering, sales, procurement, and project management teams.

This role is critical in ensuring accurate pricing, profitability, and competitiveness of our proposals while maintaining the highest standards of integrity and precision.


Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, analyze, and prepare detailed cost estimates for automotive capital equipment projects, including material, labor, tooling, subcontracting, and overhead costs.
  • Review technical drawings, specifications, and customer requirements to identify cost drivers and potential risks.
  • Collaborate with engineering, shop, and customers to clarify scope and align estimating assumptions.
  • Obtain and evaluate supplier and subcontractor quotations to ensure accuracy and competitiveness.
  • Prepare complete proposal packages, including cost breakdowns, schedules, and supporting documentation.
  • Support negotiations with customers by providing cost justifications and value engineering options.
  • Maintain and update cost databases, historical pricing records, and estimation tools.
  • Collaborate with key departments and support continuous improvement in estimating processes.
  • Working knowledge of 2D Design software used to view plant layouts.
  • Ability to read/understand technical scopes of work.

Qualifications

  • Experience: Minimum of 6 years in estimating within the automotive manufacturing capital equipment industry.
  • Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, Industrial controls equipment, fabricated details, tooling, and automation systems.
  • Software Skills: Proficiency in estimating and ERP software; advanced MS Excel skills.
  • Analytical Ability: Strong attention to detail with the ability to analyze complex data and develop accurate, competitive cost models.
  • Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to present estimates to management and customers.
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, Business, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).
