Position Title: Electrician Journeyman I

Compensation: Full-time, Non-Exempt (NE32) commensurate with experience.

Scope & Responsibilities of Electrician Journeyman I: (Not limited to)

The Electrician Journeyman I position is responsible to maintain operation of all plant electrical equipment and devices. Individuals in this role design, install, program and repair electrical systems, apparatus, logic controllers, network devices, as well as electrical and electronic components of machinery and equipment. The journeyman electrician troubleshoots problems and determines solutions using specialized training, knowledge, and skills in accordance with safety requirements. Using electrical code, manuals, schematic diagrams, blueprints, and other specifications, they work to plan and accomplish assigned tasks and goals. The successful candidate will work and train under the supervision of the Electric Shop Supervisor, Electrical Specialist and/or the designated Electrician Journeyman.

  • Design, blueprint, program, size and install power supply wiring, detailed control wiring and logic programming for newly installed or upgraded machines, equipment, motors, transformers, and process units all of which must accommodate Class 1 Div.1 & 2 hazardous locations through unclassified areas.
  • Troubleshoot, test, and diagnose malfunctioning equipment and machinery from 12VDC through 600VAC such as control circuits, power wiring circuits, distribution panels, motor leads, transformers, UPS systems, lighting, relays, various switches, signal devices.
  • Size and install rigid metal conduit, brackets, stanchions and use various other mounting techniques for proper conduit and wiring installations.
  • Effectively utilize hand tools, power tools and test equipment such as ammeter, voltage tester, megger meter, ohmmeter, ground loop meter, power analyzer, infrared camera, DC battery analyzer, laptop computer with various software packages, programs, and testing devices.
  • Troubleshoot, test, and diagnose malfunctioning medium & high voltage distribution equipment and machinery ranging from 2.4KV through 35KV such as, control circuits, power wiring circuits, bus duct, medium and high voltage switchgear, transformers, motors, and starters.
  • May replace or repair high voltage equipment such as fuses, cables, stress cones, insulators, cutouts switches and cable terminations.
  • Safely use ladders, scaffolding, platforms and operate motorized equipment such as an insulated bucket truck and man lifts.
  • Guide, instruct, train, and troubleshoot equipment alongside process personnel and various other colleagues to ensure optimal operations.
  • Perform work in compliance with OSHA, NFPA 70E, NEC following company safety procedures and professional standards.
  • Follow all work rules and practices of safety and housekeeping including wearing of all necessary personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Required to successfully complete all company mandated safety training, as well as understand and operate under lockout-tagout regulations and open line/entry permit requirements.
  • Practice continuous learning to update skills and knowledge of new technologies as it applies to refinery electrical maintenance.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned by Supervisor/Management.

Education & Experience for Electrician Journeyman I:

  • High School GED with associate degree in electrical technology required.
  • Minimum 2-4 years’ experience in electrical maintenance position or specialization desired.

Other Qualifications of Electrician Journeyman I:

  • Familiar with the National Electric Code handbook and knowledgeable of all electrical techniques and safety practices necessary to be a qualified Industrial Electrician.
  • Proficient in the use of computers and basic office technologies including Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, Outlook.
  • Knowledgeable in Rockwell and other field-related software as applicable.
  • Possess and maintain a valid motor vehicle driver’s license and obtain a Class B CDL license necessary to operate bucket truck.
  • Exhibit above average mechanical and mathematical skills with aptitude for PLC & HMI programming and code.
  • Demonstrate the ability to work independently and/or direct the work of others as appropriate.
  • Participate in intensive on-the-job training of refinery’s electrical power systems and various integrated control systems requiring advanced electrical knowledge.
  • Lead and direct the work of others (both internal and external) and interact as a valuable team member with refinery personnel.
  • Able to work independently, effectively manage time and handle multiple tasks or projects as assigned.

Physical & Cognitive Demands of Electrician Journeyman I:

COGNITIVE DEMANDS: includes the ability to meet deadlines, focus attention, work independently or within a team, perform repetitive tasks, assess spatial relations, communicate effectively, read, and comprehend, interpret information, organize, think critically, and troubleshoot.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: seeing, speaking, hearing, smelling, kneeling, stooping, sitting, walk/climb/crawl, stand/reach, listen, writing, physical coordination, driving, climbing, twisting/bending, depth perception, assembling parts, keyboarding, push/pull/lift/carry or otherwise transport 50 pounds.

Demonstrate physical ability and skill to climb, enter vessels through man ways and work in elevated locations or confined spaces.

Work in various indoor and outdoor environments in extreme heat or cold with exposure to hazardous materials.

Frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, and moderate noise levels.

Able to wear Personnel Protective Equipment (PPE) and use all types of respiratory equipment including self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA).

May be required to work overtime, holidays, weekends, scheduled time off and/or shift work as required to support plant operations.

Position is subject to callout; must be available to report for duty as needed.
