Accounting Coordinator

Position Summary:
The Town of Orange Park, Florida, is seeking a diligent and detail-oriented Accounting Coordinator to assist the Finance Director with general accounting operations and ensure accuracy and integrity of financial records. The ideal candidate is a detail-oriented and motivated accounting professional with the ability to manage fundamental accounting tasks and vital processes including payroll and accounts payable.

***In office position - must live local to the Jacksonville, FL area***

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Manages payroll activity and supervises and directs the accounting/payroll specialist. Utilizes computerized programs including software, but not limited to: New World, Tyler Incode, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft Word to perform duties and responsibilities. Works with departments in the development of the Annual Operating Budget and Capital Improvement plan and prepares all documents. Prepares monthly finance reports Assists the Finance Director in the preparation of year-end financial worksheets for auditors and maintaining fixed assets records. Oversees Town Departments in conducting annual physical inventories and grant monitoring. Assists the Finance Director with maintaining Town insurance policies and pension plans. Responsible for pension calculations and coding in payroll system. Prepares journal entries, detailed reports, account reconciliations, and month-end and interim adjusting entries. Additional accounting, financial or administrative tasks may be required from time to time. Monitors assigned banking activity and reconcile major bank accounts monthly and quarterly. Conducts and directs special projects as assigned to ensure process efficiency and propriety. Serves as back up to the Finance Director.

Qualifications:

Bachelors degree in Accounting Previous governmental experience is highly preferred Certified Public Accounting (CPA) certificate highly preferred
Must be a motivated self-starter with excellent interpersonal skills Must be highly skilled in use of Microsoft Excel and Word and have excellent verbal and written communication skills Must have excellent work habits, including a willingness to work the hours necessary to get the job done and meet departmental deadlines Attention to detail and the ability to multi task are a must
