Site Description
The Maya Angelou Academy at the DC Department of Corrections is an alternative school that serves incarcerated men and women aged 18-22 with individualized education plans. Located within the Central Treatment Facility, the school also supports students housed in the Central Detention Facility. Designed to meet the unique needs of justice-involved students requiring special education, the academy provides educational opportunities regardless of their academic history or current standing.
Position Overview
The Attendance/Data Associate (Entry Level) plays a critical role in supporting student success by monitoring, analyzing, and improving school attendance in a secure correctional setting. This position requires a detail-oriented, collaborative professional who can balance compliance with district/settlement reporting requirements and the unique circumstances of incarcerated learners. The Attendance/Data Associate will work closely with school leadership, teachers, correctional staff, and students to promote consistent school engagement and identify barriers to participation.

Responsibilities
Specific responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:
Attendance Monitoring & Reporting
- Maintain accurate daily attendance records in compliance with settlement and district policies.
- Generate and submit required attendance reports to school leadership, correctional administration, and district stakeholders.
Collaboration & Coordination
- Serve as a liaison between school staff and correctional facility personnel regarding student movement, schedules, and attendance issues.
- Provide data and insights during school meetings, audits, and program evaluations.
Compliance & Data Management
- Ensure compliance with district regulations related to attendance and student accountability.
- Manage student information systems with a high degree of accuracy, confidentiality, and security.
- Assist in preparing documentation for audits, program reviews, and accreditation processes.
- Complete other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent (required)
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree (preferred)
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including the ability to use formulas, pivot tables, conditional formatting, and data visualization tools to track and analyze attendance data.
- Strong organizational and data management skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a correctional facility, maintaining professionalism and security awareness at all times.
- Experience working with opportunity or justice-involved youth (preferred)

Salary and Benefits
Maya Angelou Schools and See Forever Foundation salaries are comparable to those of other public charter schools in the District of Columbia area.
