Summary

This position will assist the Farm Manager with all aspects of vegetable production and harvest at Blandford Nature Center's 2.5-acre mixed vegetable farm. Additionally, this position is responsible for representing BNC at the Fulton Street Farmer’s Market, and for embodying our commitment to sustainable, regenerative, and holistic food production practices. This is a full-time, seasonal position, with an exact weekly schedule to be discussed. Saturdays may be required.

Responsibilities:

● Manage the BNC market stall at the Fulton Street Farmer’s Market 1-2 times per week from June through October. May be required to drive company truck to market

● Provide excellent customer service for market customers and CSA members

● Assist with vegetable production including bed prep, seed propagation, weeding, transplanting, trellising, pruning, and infrastructure setup/removal/repairs

● Harvest, clean and pack vegetables for distribution with adherence to food safety standards

● Assist with leading volunteer groups and weekly volunteers

● Assist with farm related errands and driving to off-site locations for deliveries

● Assist with some aspects of animal care: feeding, stall mucking, providing enrichment

● Other duties assigned by the Farm Manager

Minimum Required Qualifications:

● One year experience in organic farm production, or with related physical, outdoor work, such as landscaping

● Experience in customer service including cash handling

● Experience with or willingness to learn to drive a truck with a trailer

● Available to work weekends and flexible weekly hours

● Must maintain a valid driver’s license

● Excellent judgment and reliability

● Positive role model in attitude and behavior

● Energetic, flexible and ability to work independently

● Ability to work effectively and efficiently with all Blandford Nature Center staff and volunteers

● Excellent verbal communication skills

Preferred Qualifications:

● Two years of retail or service industry experience

● Two years of experience in small scale farm production

● Experience with creating attractive display/presentation of produce for purchase

● Advanced knowledge of cooking and storing farm produce

Physical Responsibilities:

While performing the duties of this job, the Farm Sales and Production Associate is regularly required to sit, stand, reach, push, pull and bend for extended periods of time. The Farm Sales and Production Associate must be able to move up to 50 pounds and must also be able to work outdoors in a variety of conditions; including extreme temperatures and maneuver over wet, brushy, muddy, steep trail surfaces and uneven terrain.
