Technical Writer
Position Overview
The Technical Writer will create, edit, and maintain technical documentation that supports engineering, manufacturing, and quality processes for companies industrial and defense products. This role ensures clarity, accuracy, and compliance with internal standards and customer requirements, helping teams communicate complex technical information effectively across functions.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and revise technical manuals, standard operating procedures (SOPs), work instructions, service and repair guides, and training materials.
- Interpret technical data from engineers, product designers, subject-matter experts, and manufacturing teams.
- Translate complex engineering concepts and specifications into clear, concise written content usable by non-technical audiences.
- Work closely with engineering, quality, manufacturing, and document control teams to ensure documentation is complete, accurate, up-to-date, and compliant with company and customer requirements (e.g., Defense documentation practices).
- Lead document reviews and revisions in response to design changes, product updates, customer feedback, and audit findings.
- Ensure all documentation aligns with ISO/AS9100 or relevant quality standards.
- Maintain and organize documentation repositories, version control, and classification systems.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives of documentation practices and tools.
Required Qualifications
- Proven experience in technical writing/editing, ideally in a manufacturing, engineering, or defense environment.
- Exceptional written communication and grammar skills with strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to work with subject matter experts to extract technical information and translate it into clear documentation.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and ADOBE.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple documentation projects and deadlines simultaneously.
Preferred Skills & Experience
- Experience in manufacturing documentation, ISO 9001/AS9100 quality systems, or defense industry standards.
- Familiarity with ERP systems to access data and BOM information (similar to Document Control roles at CIRCOR).
- Experience with graphics, diagrams, or visual communication tools to enhance technical content.
