Community Passageways is seeking a passionate and dedicated individual for the role of Deep Dive Community Ambassador and Resource Navigator. This role is crucial in supporting and mentoring youth and young adults (YYA) aged 14-27 who have been impacted by the criminal legal system and are at risk of gun violence. The ideal candidate will guide these individuals towards personal and community betterment, focusing on resilience against gun violence and nurturing future leaders through comprehensive programming. This position will report to the Deep Dive Program Manager.
Schedule: Monday – Friday, evenings, or as needed; 24/7 availability for participant support
Key Responsibilities:
Relationship-Building & Mentorship
• Build and maintain strong, consistent relationships with participants.
• Engage young men in community spaces, at their homes, and wherever they feel comfortable.
• Support participants through challenges related to violence, family conflict, housing instability, legal issues, and community dynamics.
• Encourage progress through accountability, trust, and positive modeling.
Case Management & Documentation
• Conduct weekly check-ins and keep detailed case notes on participant interactions and progress.
• Help participants meet basic needs and work toward educational, housing, and personal goals.
• Assist participants in navigating systems such as court, school, healthcare, and social services.
Street Outreach & Crisis Response
• Stay present in neighborhoods and community spaces to engage participants and monitor safety concerns.
• Respond quickly to critical incidents involving participants.
• Provide conflict support or de-escalation when issues arise.
• Stay informed about neighborhood tensions, street activity, and potential risks.
Participant Safety & Boundaries
• Use clear and respectful communication, especially over text and phone.
• Maintain professional boundaries and be mindful not to engage in unsafe situations.
• Operate with intention when entering high-risk environments or supporting participants in real-time crises.
Going Beyond Relationships
• Support young people with real, tangible progress—not just conversation.
• Push for change in thinking and behavior patterns through consistent modeling and direct conversations.
• Make sure participants have what they need to take the next step—whether that’s a ride to court, help with a move, or support after a violent event.
Additional Responsibilities
• Engage in assigned meetings, maintain confidentiality, and fulfill other duties as required.
RequirementsQualifications:
- Experience working with at-risk youth, particularly those involved in the criminal legal system.
- Knowledge of the challenges faced by BIPOC communities in Seattle.
- Strong understanding of trauma-informed care, asset-based approaches, and various therapeutic methodologies.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trust and rapport.
- Cultural competency and sensitivity to diverse populations.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to transport participants as needed.
- Proficiency in using technology for virtual programming and record-keeping.
