Job DescriptionJob Title: CNC Machinist
Job Description
The CNC Machinist operates CNC mills, primarily 3-axis machines, to produce precision components, mainly from aluminum materials. This role includes reading and interpreting blueprints, performing basic tool changes and offsets, deburring parts, and conducting quality checks on finished components, including operation of a CMM machine. The position is based in a long-run production department where you will receive training in setups, tool changes, and offsets within a clean, modern manufacturing environment.
Responsibilities
- Operate CNC mills, with a primary focus on 3-axis machining, to produce precision parts according to specifications.
- Machine mostly aluminum materials while maintaining tight tolerances and consistent quality.
- Read and interpret blueprints on a daily basis to determine machining requirements and verify part specifications.
- Perform basic tool changes and adjust machine offsets as needed to maintain part accuracy and quality.
- Deburr parts after machining to ensure clean, finished components that meet quality standards.
- Perform quality checks on finished parts using inspection tools such as micrometers, calipers, and gauges.
- Operate a CMM (Coordinate Measuring Machine) to verify part dimensions and ensure compliance with engineering drawings.
- Work within a long-run production environment, focusing on repeatable, consistent production runs.
- Train into and support machine setups, including selecting tools, setting work offsets, and verifying first-article parts.
- Follow established machine shop procedures and safety guidelines at all times.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area to support a safe and efficient manufacturing environment.
- Collaborate with team members and supervisors to resolve machining issues and improve processes where possible.
Essential Skills
- Minimum of 2+ years of CNC operation experience, preferably on CNC mills.
- Proven ability to read and interpret blueprints accurately.
- Experience working with inspection tools, including micrometers, calipers, and gauges.
- Basic knowledge of tool changes and machine offsets on CNC milling equipment.
- Ability to perform quality inspections on machined parts and identify nonconformances.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Comfort working in a machine shop environment with production deadlines.
- Ability to stand for the duration of the shift while operating machinery.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Machining degree or formal machining education is a strong plus.
- Experience operating 3-axis CNC mills in a production environment.
- Familiarity with CMM operation for dimensional inspection.
- Background in working with aluminum materials and long-run production machining.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality parts.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and standard operating procedures.
- Solid understanding of basic shop math and measurement principles.
Why Work Here?
You will join a clean, well-organized, and air-conditioned manufacturing facility that invests in modern equipment and a safe work environment. The department has a low turnover rate and offers stability, with hiring driven by retirements rather than frequent staff changes. You can expect opportunities for growth and development, including training in setups, tool changes, and offsets, allowing you to expand your skill set and advance your career over time.
Work Environment
The role is based in a very clean manufacturing environment with air conditioning and a focus on hydraulic power unit components, which are completely self-contained with AC or DC motors, gear pumps, reservoirs, internal valving, load hold checks, and relief valves. The work supports industrial and mobile hydraulic applications. You will experience frequent exposure to oils, cleaners, and coolants, as well as frequent exposure to loud noises that require hearing protection in designated areas. There is occasional exposure to moving parts and equipment, and you must follow all safety protocols. Eye protection is required in all plant work areas, and safety shoes with steel toes and slip-resistant soles are mandatory. The position requires standing for the entire shift while operating machinery and performing inspections in a busy production shop.
