POSITION TITLE: Accounting Manager

REPORTS TO: Director of Financial Services

Position Summary

The Accounting Manager oversees payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash management, and general ledger functions for a multi-state construction organization, with primary concentration of operations along the Texas-Louisiand Gulf Coast. This role ensures compliance with federal and state payroll and tax regulations, maintains strong internal controls, and supports operational teams in a collaborative environment. Experience with construction or project-based accounting and multi-state sales & use tax is preferred.


Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee payroll, AP, AR, cash management, and general ledger activities.
  • Supervise weekly payroll processing, ensuring accurate wage, overtime, and deduction calculations in compliance with federal and state laws.
  • Manage payroll and tax filings, including Sales & Use Tax, 940/941, SUI, withholding, and W-2 reporting.
  • Support year-end close processes, audits, and related reporting requirements.
  • Maintain and improve payroll procedures, timekeeping systems, and internal controls.
  • Perform and review bank and balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Manage daily cash allocations, including AR receipts, AP payments, and intercompany transfers.
  • Assist with month-end close, payroll tax accruals, and financial reporting.
  • Prepare management reports and respond to employee and departmental inquiries.
  • Identify and resolve accounting issues and support special projects as needed.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance (required)
  • 8+ years of construction or cost accounting experience
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP
  • Experience with multi-state payroll and sales & use tax
  • CPA or CMA preferred
  • Experience with Viewpoint/VISTA or similar construction ERP systems preferred

Additional Requirements

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel required)
  • Valid driver's license
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
