Job Title: Recreation Laborer Seasonal

Department: Recreation

Location: 32 Farm View Dr New Gloucester Maine

Reports To: Recreations Director

Status: Hourly- Non-Exempt

SUMMARY

A Recreation Laborer performs physically demanding tasks in a variety of outdoor settings, including landscaping, construction, and grounds maintenance. This role involves manual labor, operating equipment, and working in diverse weather conditions.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.


  • Assist with event preparation and on-site support
  • Perform trail maintenance and grooming (including winter grooming)
  • Operate and perform basic maintenance on outdoor equipment
  • Cut and prune trees as needed
  • Perform string trimming and general landscaping tasks such as digging, mowing, debris removal, installing hardscapes, loading and unloading materials, and maintaining tools and equipment.
  • Paint various surfaces as required.
  • Maintain disc gold courses and trails
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including nights and weekends.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Ability to learn through on-the-job-training.
  • Prior outdoor labor experience a plus.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Must have a valid driver's license, with a clear driving record
  • Ability to work well in public settings and represent the organization professionally
  • Capable of working both independently and as part of a team
  • Stamina to perform manual labor for extended periods of time

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.


MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.


REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving standardized situations.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts. The employee is occasionally exposed to cleaning chemicals. The noise level in the work environment is occasionally loud.

This position requires working in a variety of outdoor climates, including hot summers and cold winters, often in rain or snow. Employees regularly operate and work near machinery and equipment that may require the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) such as hearing protection, hard hats, and safety glasses. While most tasks are performed outdoors, some indoor work may be required
