We are seeking a Health and Safety Manager to join our team for the Project. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in health and safety management within the construction or mining industry, responsible for the health and safety of all The Companys employees while onsite, including program development, compliance, and team oversight. The Health and Safety Manager will report to the VP of Operations as related to the project and to the Corporate Health and Safety Manager programmatically.


Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee the health and safety of all The Companys employees while onsite, ensuring a safe working environment through proactive measures and compliance.
  • Develop, implement, and manage comprehensive health and safety programs, policies, and procedures for the project.
  • Lead safety inspections, audits, and risk assessments to identify hazards and implement corrective actions.
  • Coordinate safety training, orientations, and drills for all personnel, promoting a culture of safety awareness.
  • Monitor compliance with OSHA, MSHA, and other regulatory requirements, preparing reports and documentation as needed.
  • Investigate incidents, near-misses, and accidents, conducting root cause analyses and recommending preventive strategies.
  • Manage safety data, records, and reporting systems to track performance and trends.
  • Provide guidance and support to site teams on health and safety matters, including PPE usage and safe practices.
  • Collaborate with management, regulatory agencies, and external partners to ensure ongoing safety compliance and improvements.
  • Supervise safety technicians and staff, assigning tasks and evaluating performance.
  • Handle emergency response planning and coordination, including health-related assessments and wellness initiatives.


Scope of Work

The Health and Safety Manager will oversee a variety of tasks critical to the Project, including:

  • Program Development: Create and update health and safety plans tailored to site conditions and activities.
  • Inspections and Assessments: Conduct regular audits and hazard evaluations to maintain safety standards.
  • Training and Awareness: Organize and deliver safety education and training sessions for employees.
  • Compliance and Reporting: Ensure adherence to regulations and prepare safety reports for management and authorities.
  • Incident Management: Lead investigations and implement lessons learned from safety events.
  • Team Oversight: Manage safety personnel and coordinate with other departments on safety integration.
  • Risk Mitigation: Identify and address health and safety risks proactively.
  • Health and Wellness: Promote employee well-being through assessments and healthy practice initiatives.
  • Closeout: Finalize safety documentation and conduct project safety reviews at completion.


Required Skills and Qualifications

  • A minimum of 8 years of experience in health and safety management within the construction or mining industry, with at least 3 years in a managerial role.
  • Proven track record of leading safety programs on large-scale projects, including compliance and risk management.
  • Strong knowledge of safety practices, standards, regulatory compliance, and operations in the civil construction sector.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in safety management software (e.g., MS Office Suite, safety tracking tools like iAuditor or similar).
  • Ability to enforce safety protocols under pressure and resolve issues effectively.
  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, or a related field; relevant certifications (e.g., CSP, CIH, OSHA 30, MSHA) preferred.
  • Basic first aid training is required; Wilderness First Responder or EMT certification is preferred.
  • Certifications to conduct both MSHA and OSHA training. MSHA blue card. Certified to provide basic first aid training.
