Job Description

Job DescriptionJob Opportunity: Physician - Hematology/Oncology

We are seeking a dedicated Physician to join our Hematology/Oncology team. This position is based at our Albany location, operating Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, with weekends off.

About the Role

As part of our organization, you will be affiliated with a leading cancer center. The physicians in our hematology/oncology program will be employed by our medical group. Responsibilities include:

  • Seeing an average of 15-18 patients daily, with the option to increase volume if desired.
  • Collaborating with Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) who typically see 10-12 patients per day.
  • Managing a patient load that is equitable and manageable.
  • Participating in hospital rounds without patient responsibilities during those times.

Clinical Environment

The average daily census in the hospital is between 20-30 patients. Our clinics see significant patient volumes, with approximately 50-80 patients daily in Albany and around 40 in Troy. Our nursing and APP teams are equipped to administer various treatments, including:

  • Antineoplastic agents by nurses, APPs, and MDs.
  • Intrathecal, intralesion, and intracavity treatments by MDs and APPs.
  • Bone marrow and fine needle aspiration biopsies primarily performed by Interventional Radiology.
  • Management of vascular access devices by nursing staff.
  • Intrapleural therapies conducted in inpatient settings.

Collaboration and Specialties

Our oncology service line comprises approximately 80% oncology and 20% benign hematology. We are transitioning to a 1:1 MD to APP model. Patient demographics range from geriatric to young adult, excluding pediatrics, with high volumes in pancreatic, breast, colon, and urology cases. Our physicians have access to a wide range of specialties within our system, including:

  • Thoracic
  • Gastrointestinal
  • Head & Neck
  • Genitourinary

While we do not manage acute leukemias or have a Bone Marrow Transplant program, we have dedicated APPs for both inpatient and outpatient services.

Support and Resources

Our nursing team achieved Magnet designation in 2022, ensuring high-quality patient care. Each physician is assigned a Primary Nurse for triage and administrative support, with dedicated nurses in both Albany and Troy clinics to assist with patient management.

We also have a team of four full-time pharmacists available to address any questions regarding chemotherapy and treatment protocols. Hospitalists will admit patients, and dedicated inpatient APPs will oversee their care.

On-Call and Technology

Weekend call responsibilities are shared, occurring every five weeks from Friday to Sunday. Our electronic medical records system is EPIC, facilitating efficient patient management.

Professional Development

Participation in tumor boards for GU, GI, Breast, Thoracic, and General oncology is encouraged, with virtual access to specialized tumor boards from our affiliated cancer center.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will:

  • Hold Board Certification from the American Board of Internal Medicine with subspecialty certification in Medical Oncology and Hematology, or be in the process of obtaining it.
  • Value patient-centered care and thrive in a collaborative team environment.
  • Exhibit enthusiasm and motivation to deliver exceptional patient outcomes.

Compensation and Benefits

This is an exciting opportunity to join a well-established practice with strong patient demand. We offer a comprehensive salary and benefits package, which includes:

  • A competitive starting salary that does not include potential productivity bonuses, quality and performance incentives, or extra shift compensation.
  • Continuing Medical Education (CME) allowance.
  • Quality bonuses and signing bonuses available.
  • Relocation reimbursement options.
  • A stable 5-year contract with a guaranteed base salary.

Join us in providing outstanding care in a supportive and collaborative environment!
