Pharmacist in Charge (PIC)
Job Description


The Pharmacist in Charge is responsible for ensuring compliance with all corporate policies and procedures as well as all state and federal laws and is required to report any violations to the Company President/Owners. The Pharmacist in Charge may be asked to function in the compounding lab, intake or other department as needed and must maintain competence to fulfill the duties and responsibilities of each position.
This position reports directly to the Director of Pharmacy

Qualifications:
1. Graduate of an accredited College of Pharmacy
2. Licensed Pharmacist in the state of Tennessee
3. 5+ years pharmacy leadership experience
4. Knowledge of organizational policies associate with management, administrative, purchasing, inventory, property, and control relationships
5. Knowledge of office management, budgeting, problem-solving management techniques, and data processing
6. Possess the education, training, and proficiency required to properly and safely perform the compounding duties
7. Competent or williness to learn the art and science of compounding and should maintain competency through training and ongoing awareness
8. Ability to manage personnel resources
9. Proficient in operating Microsoft Office

Essential Job Functions:
1. Directly responsible for pharmacy related activities in the compounding pharmacy, including patient referral evaluations, product missing and dispensing procedures, clinical drug monitoring, and communication of appropriate drug information internally and externally.
2. Responsible for proper documentation of all pharmacy related activities to comply with state and federal regulations.
3. Responsible for a written plan, in conjunction with the Director of Pharmacy, in the policy manual for ongoing review of processes to assure compliance with proper procedures.
4. Responsible for proper control and documentation of all scheduled dug usage and inventory control.
5. Ensures that the daily computer hard copy logs for new prescriptions, refills, and scheduled prescriptions are signed by the pharmacist on duty for the day and that all other daily activities are in compliance with state and federal law.
6. Supervises patient counseling activities and monitors patient waiting time.
7. Coordinates with the Compliance Officer for all orders and approves all inventory purchase orders and daily wholesale purchase requests in the compounding pharmacy to directly monitor inventory levels and balance.
8. Reviews all daily reports for accuracy and facilitates any corrections needed.
9. Monitors supplies and equipment for appropriate use and takes steps to keep misuse to a minimum.
10. Oversees and verifies the proper completion and documentation of scheduled (daily, weekly, monthly, semi-annually, and annually) environmental equipment, cleaning, and monitoring and maintenance as required by USP 795 and 800.
11. Oversees and monitors maintenance of lab equipment, ensuring all scheduled maintenance is performed and documented.
12. Trains employees on current equipment and new equipment as needed.
13. Actively manages all aspects of the inventory including pre-made products to minimize the cost of goods and maintains an accurate inventory within the pharmacy software.
14. Monitors the pharmacy for expired medications on a monthly basis and documents cost for expired and “loss” of medications on a monthly report.

Safety and Policies & Procedures
1. Immediately investigates any accidents or incidents related to patient care and/or employee well-being and reports it to the Director of Pharmacy.
2. Displays a willingness to support policies and procedures and uses appropriate channels for change.
3. Assists the Director of Pharmacy with preparation and editing of corporate policies and procedures.


Personnel Management & Development
1. Responsible for the management of all compounding pharmacists and compounding technicians daily duties.
2. Consistently communicates company goals, policies, directives, and other essential information throughout the departments.
3. Assits the Director of Pharmacy with Interviews candidates as needed to ensure only high-quality individuals are allowed to become team members.
4. Exercises and maintains authority regarding compounding staff performance activities including but not limited to: employee counseling/coaching, resolving conflict, recognition, rewarding, or terminating employees when necessary.
5. Documents and reviews employee performance on an annual basis to ensure performance expectations are met or exceeded in conjunction with the Director of Pharmacy.
6. Attends organizational in-services and pertinent continuing education courses and disseminates essential information to staff.
7. Assists with the orientation of new employees where applicable.
8. Instills a sense of pride and importance in all employees through regular interaction and recognition of their efforts.
9. Coordinates the schedules of the staff to assure work is completed in an appropriate amount of time, in order to eliminate unnecessary overtime accumulation.
10. Promotes employee satisfaction and retention.

Company Representation & Leadership

Financial Management
1. Plans the annual inventory of the compounding pharmacy in conjunction with the Director of Pharmacy.
2. Monitors revenues and expenses in the compounding pharmacy and is involved in the annual budget preparation.
3. Is responsible that all price updates are routinely completed and correct.


Software & Technology
1. Responsible for computer software utilization, evaluation, and training.
2. Conducts regular in-service updates with compounding staff to maintain computer software proficiency, on a quarterly basis.
